1979 Porsche 928

I bought this car preowned in November 1979 from Brumos Porsche Audi, I was 29. This was my Dream car as soon as I saw its introduction in the magazines and then when my good fellow Porsche 911 friend, Jeff, bought his White 78' 5spd 928 and he gave me a ride/drive....I was hooked big time...I had to have it and I did along with a car payment bigger than my house payment,lol.....its what car guys do, rite!! I began protecting the car from the beginning...removed and stored the factory floor mats, rear mat and luggage cover and replacing them with aftermarket mats, always kept seat saver covers on the front seats and always covered the car when parking it in the sun or outside for longer periods of time......yes, even on dates! I traveled North America on business during the week and enjoyed my 928 on the weekends when I returned, hence the mileage stayed very low in addition another car for routine stuff. Both Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg drove this car at PCA driving schools I attended while living in Florida. Each of the subsequent owners, mature professionals, also pampered the car and drove it very little. I ultimately, bought the car back, from a previous owner when offered to me. It was in as great condition as when I sold it, but time for mechanical repair and maintenance. I own an independent Porsche repair/restoration shop for 35 years and most all work done on this car was done in my shop, Randall Kara Techniques, so this car is maintained to a very high level, visit our FaceBook and see what we do. With prices moving up strongly on 928s, I probably should not sell this car, but I have too many car projects going on and its time for a new collector to make an even better collectable out of this amazing all original well preserved early example of the timeless 928. One blog comment I received describes this car very well......"Spared no Expense".
This is a top maintained 928 as anyone who has seen it will attest. Heads have never been off the engine, but virtually everything else on the engine has been resealed....cam housings, cam seals, crank seals, oil pump seals, tensioner of course, oil pan gasket, cooling system gaskets/seals, water pump, etc, etc. Motor mounts replaced, steering rack, steering pump, reservoir and related hoses/lines. Complete clutch assembly, front wheel bearings/seals, brake booster, master cylinder replaced with new. All brake calipers were rebuilt and new OEM brake lines also installed. All plastic inner fenders replaced with new. Yes and very recently a new fuel tank, both fuel pumps, related lines and fuel pressure stabilizer. Warmup regulator, fuel distributor, fuel injectors replaced as well. Both doors completely rebuilt with new rubber glass to body seals, plastic guides/rollers, etc. New window motors ands switches. Correct OEM antenna motor and mast. Rebuilt CV axles. Recent rebuilt alternator. New A/C compressor, suction and discharge hoses off compressor, drier, expansion valve, R12. All normal maintenance items of course are complete. Recent Pirrelli P zero N3 tires, (wish the original P7s were still available) and four wheel alignment. I have a receipt folder that dates back to 2003.
The rub strips on the car were added by a subsequent owner and were installed with the factory adhesive and could be carefully removed if desired. The air injection system /pump was replaced with the factory delete pulley from a 1980 model 928. The original catalyst is on the car. Enameled Porsche crest was added to the horn button. H4 headlights installed early on during my initial ownership. Otherwise, the car is all original. I have boxes of many of the take off parts that I saved as they were original to the car and those go with the car as well.
Keep in mind this is an all original unrestored 928!! The interior is all original 1979, the paint is all original 1979 except that the front and rear bumper caps were stripped an repainted. Also the rocker panels were painted.
The car runs well, running bit rich through warmup, AC cold, trans shifts well, however gear fluid must be warm as these early transmissions required.
This car is sold in as is condition with no warranty. However, Im more than willing to help the new owner with any questions as needed. As beautiful and original and well maintained a car this is, it is still a 40 year old car that is not used much and that can create problems at anytime, as with any old car, but especially an advanced car of this era like a 928 with all of its electrics. Speaking of electrics, do notice the pristine un molested fuse and relay board and surrounding pieces, again this is unrestored !
