1968 912 Soft Window Targa (SWT)

Description:

1968 Porsche 912 Soft Window Targa

Here's a VERY rare (I know, a term bandied about with ease BUT, it is!) numbers matching VERY complete '68 912 Soft Window Targa. Not that many remain. If you are familiar with 1968 Porsche's you know it is a very unique "one year only" year for a lot of interior bits. This car still has a majority of those "bits". The original color, per COA and Paint Code is the incredibly popular and beautiful Bahama Yellow which you can easily see the remnants of. I bought this years ago for a "some day" restoration. At this point in my life, "some day" needs to belong to "some"one else. However, if it doesn't sell, I may still be that "someone".
I carefully dismantled the car and identified and bagged up the majority of the bits and pieces. There are dozens of tagged, labeled ziplock bags. I had the following prepped, soda blasted and e-coated; Front Fenders and Bumper, Hood, Doors, Rear Decklid, Rear Bumpers and various small body parts. I had the gauges restored by North Hollywood Speedometer. The Speedo gauge came with KPH even though the car was originally a USA car delivered to and sold in Los Angeles, per the Kardex. It was restored back to KPH. Overall the car is in excellent restorable condition and (imho) is not a rust bucket. I originally bought the car in California and had it shipped out to Kansas City. That said, there are areas that will need to be addressed, primarily the floor pan.
The matching numbers engine will need to be rebuilt. The transmissions (a type 901/01) serial number does not match the COA or Kardex. The serial number per those documents are #1081239, the serial number actually on the transmission is #1081923. This is a typo on the COA and Kardex, which Porsche is notorious for. I'm taking the stance it's numbers matching to the car. I believe for the most part, the "Porsche Community" would agree.
The complete interior is included. Seats, Door Cards (w/ holes cut for speakers, arghh), Windows, 2pc Dash (cracked), rare original Rear Seat Delete cabinet, Switches, etc. The original Targa Top isn't in super bad condition, but I would imagine Dan Petchel at Cars Inc. could easily work his magic on. Unfortunately I DO NOT HAVE the Rear Soft Window or Bows. Also, I do not have a windshield. It also comes with the correct non-vented Targa Bar, only used on '67-'68 Targa's.
When the car was delivered to the dealer, they installed a Delanair Air Conditioning System, at a cost of @ 800.00 (yikes). This, along with all the plumbing has been removed leaving holes along the way. Also, somewhere in its life an owner welded some iron tabs in the engine bay. I'm "assuming" this was for some sort of towing system(?) although I don't think one could safely tow anything behind a 912? Again, it's only an assumption. These can easily be cut off and grinded down.
While I've done my best to describe and disclose what you are getting I'm sure I've overlooked some things or areas. Please ASK me questions PRIOR to bidding or winning. At this point what you see is what you get. Sold AS-IS / WHERE-IS. Obviously, the mileage listed is NOT correct. I have no idea of the actual mileage. Sorry for some of the pics being wonky.
Car and parts are located in the Kansas City area. I have a clear Kansas title in my name. There is ALOT of pieces, body parts, boxes, etc. that are loose and not attached to the car. If you are shipping (the last 3 Porsche's I've sold on eBay in the last few weeks/months have left the country) then be sure to NOTIFY YOUR SHIPPER BEFOREHAND. I will give them everything loose and not "big boxed" or palletized. THIS IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILTY.
It comes with the original alum VIN plate, COA and the Kardex. I have LOTS more pics, so if you want an area not posted here, message me and I will send you what you want.
The reserve is at a very reasonable price considering what this vehicle is and represents. It is not for sale elsewhere (but it is listed with a link here on several forums) so, this auction is running its course and I will not end early, unless you offer me 50 grand :-)
FWIW, I'm NOT a dealer, just a collector downsizing. Thanks for looking. BID HIGH & OFTEN!!
