The car comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche and it is a “Numbers Matching” vehicle. This color is one of the rare 912 colors listed by the 912 Registry with only 44 surviving 912's with this color, and only a handful of 912E models. This car benefits from a factory galvanized body, the only 912 model so treated by Porsche.
The 912E was intended for sale in North America only and is powered by the 2.0 liter fuel-injected 914-derived engine "which took Porsche engineers two years to develop and refine", and shared the very same chassis and body styling of the 911S coupe of that same year. The Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system used is often referred to as the Air Flow Controlled (AFC) system later adapted for use in the 911 series.
The 912E's were all assembled in Porsche's Stuttgart factory in Germany unlike many of the other 912's which were actually assembled at the Karmann factory. In June 1976, 912E production ended with the completion of number 2,099, worldwide. This final 912E also became Porsche's last air-cooled four-cylinder production car.
