1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary

1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary -

The 10th Anniversary cars, code Y89, came only in silver and dark charcoal, trimmed in red, silver and gray striping with a “super bird” hood decal that flowed onto the fenders, 10th Anniversary decals, T-tops, and a silver interior. Leather seating was standard, as was a hand-embroidered bird on each door panel and the rear seat, a leather-wrapped Formula wheel, red instrument panel lighting, air conditioning, and many other comfort and convenience options including an AM/FM/8-track stereo with seek and scan functions available only on Y89 models.
Buyers outside California had a choice of two engines on this special-edition Trans Am: Opting for the 185-hp 403-cu.in. Oldsmobile-built V-8 (the only option for Golden State buyers) automatically selected the three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission (this cars drive train), while choosing the Pontiac-built 220-hp 400-cu.in. V-8 automatically selected the four-speed manual transmission.5,683 examples were built with the 185-hp 403, while 1,817 examples were built with the 220-hp Pontiac 400.All Y89 cars also came equipped with unique 15×8 Air Flow (or Turbo, as they’re also known) wheels and 225/70R15 white letter tires, as well as the WS6 handling package. The WS6 package included stiffer rear leaf springs; a .75-inch rear anti-roll bar (up from .625); nylon end-link bushings, instead of rubber bushings, for the existing 1.25-inch front anti-roll bar; firmer dampers; fixed ratio (14:1) steering box; and rear disc brakes, a new feature for 1979 models.
A barn find of sorts this 10340 original mile example is an an unrestored survivor. I will detail the condition below. I have ridden in this Trans am extensively. Most of the low mileage examples of these cars have not had any maintenance or upkeep. They are unable to drive properly or dependably. This one has had intensive maintenance including a recent transmission service, leak repairs, and general service. This is a get in and drive example. The below Google album has videos of us driving in 110 degree heat with no issues. The Trans Am performs perfectly. The A/C blows cool. It could blow freezing cold if we had R12, but we do not. The transmission shift perfectly. This is a great running and driving car. We have the documentation going back to the day it was delivered on April 27, 1979.
Body: 100% Original pain showing minor wear. No rust. We have not polished or detailed this car. What is seen is how it has looked.
Interior; Original, and appearing new. The seats leather is soft with firm foam padding. The dash is crack free and in excellent condition. The gauges are clear and all are operational.
Chassis: Original unrestored condition. The exhaust has been replaced with a reproduction version of the original. The factory nylon bushings in the front and rear all look as new. The bare metal surfaces are showing surface rust. Original inspection marking as well as stickers are in place. Again we have not detailed the chassis. We have just installed new BF Goodrich tires. The original tires do come with the car. Please look at the google album for detailed chassis pictures.
Motor and Transmission: Original matching number, and in great working order. We are happy to allow full inspections. the car is on a lift for ease of viewing.
Trunk- an audio system had been added to the car years back. It resides in the trunk. This could be removed for originality purposes. We have not turned it on. The head unit is in the trunk which is not exactly convenient. The spare, and jack are in the trunk
Documentation: We have the original sales "desk" invoice, temporary plate, as well as years of receipts documenting the mileage, and maintenance.
