Price: - Item location: Carrollton, Texas, United States
Description:

1978 Pontiac Firebird Premium

This Trans am does not have a spec of rust anywhere. The undercarriage still bares the factory primer coat, and has been clear coated to preserve it. The Engine is still the original 400 ci. numbers matching block with standard bore, professionally turned into a 455, which dynoed just over 650 hp. The interior is all original and in mint condition. Included is a picture of the build sheet, circled in red are the factory build codes for the seatbelts. Also included is a picture of the seat belt tag with exact codes shown on the build sheet. Even the seatbelts look and feel like new. Factory paint of this era were not all that great, thus the car has been repainted with no expense spared. The factory Mayan Red has been perfectly duplicated and clear coated.
I had a collection of 2nd Generation Trans am years ago and most were bought brand new, thus I knew what to look for when I found this Trans Am in Northern California. A few items were changed from original equipment by me, in order to achieve a higher level of performance and standard. The steering gear box is a brand new unit, which is found in real race cars, with the perfect lock to lock ratio. The rear brakes were converted to disc, using all brand new parts to match the factory 4 wheel disc option, which was not available in 1978. When the body was apart for the repaint, almost all the nuts and bolts were replaced with stainless nuts and bolts. The fuel lines were also replaced with stainless 3/8" tubing professionally bent to match the factory. Professionally build 3" 304 stainless mandrel bent dual exhaust allows the 455 to perform at its full potential. The factory steering wheel was sent off to be professionally wrapped in leather with a factory like stitching. The power window now move with much better speed, as the wiring was updated with separate relays. The factory radio was replaced with a high end RETRO system which looks factory and capable of performing with the latest technology. The factory 80 mph speedometer was sent off to be redone to show 160 mph and calibrated to be far more accurate than the factory. The odometer reading was kept the same, showing 45K miles which appear to be original.
My goal was not to have a full resto - mod. My interest instead, was to have a 1978 Trans Am, that looked 100% like a 1978 Trans Am, that performed with the latest and greatest.
The paint job is flawless, as all the panels were removed, prior to painting. All laser straight with an absolutely breathtaking reflection. This car is worthy to be in any high end collection, museumquality.
Upon request, I will be happy to supply more pictures of any requested area of this car.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm forced to thin the collection, otherwise, this car would never be offered for sale. You cannot restore a Trans Am to this level, without spending far more than my starting price.
Included are all documentation, including, owners manual, build sheet and original window sticker, Duplicate keys with it's original key knockouts.
SPECIAL NOTE: CLICK ON THE ON THE PICTURE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK TO ZOOM IN. TO THE LEFT OF THE "YA" YOU'LL SEE THE FACTORY STAMPING OF THE VIN NUMBERS.
CLICKING ON SOME OF THE PICTURES, WILL ENLARGE THEM. UPON REQUEST, I'LL BE HAPPY TO SEND PICTURES OF ANY AREA OR SECTION OF THE CAR. THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL ON THIS CAR IS EXTREME.
THERE ARE LOTS OF MODS, TOO MANY TO LIST THAT ARE NOT VISIBLE IN THE PICTURES. THOSE THAT ARE SERIOUS CAN MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFO.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:I've been messaged with a few good questions, thought I'd answer them here for all to have.Even though this engine made 650 hp, it's very streetable. Makes plenty of vacuumto run all the accessories that use vacuum. Brakes, A/C controls, Carburetor etc.The carburetor is the factory 4 bbl the car came with, and still looks like new. Upon me buying and receiving the car, a friend of mine that has a book of codes and part numbers for collectiblecars, went through all of the important parts, and all the codes and part numbers were a perfect match. The Heads are Edelbrock aluminum Performer RPM. The Intake is also an Edelbrock aluminum. Full length headers and as mentioned above, true 3" mandrel bent stainless 304 all the way back, into custom fabricated splitter tips similar to factory. The Transmission was modified by a well known transmission builder. The shifts are hard under heavy throttle, but factory like when driving normal. A very efficient trans cooler was added along with stainless lines, all custom bent and routed. You'd think they were factory. Yes, the car is a little louder than factory, butdefinitely not obnoxious. The very few times this car has been driven by me, mainly to car shows, the head turning, honking and thumbs up from all ages, makes all the hard work and money that went into this car well worth it. I won't disclose how much I have invested into this car, but those that have just a little knowledge of what it takes, know that my starting price with no reserve is extremely low. The headlights areEuropean Hellastyle, with bright (white) LEDs.
