Description:

1970 Pontiac GTO

1970 GTO 455 HO Ram Air ..Was original 455 HO RA car,but now Not Numbers Matching..Richmond 5 Speed Manual ..Runs and drives well..PHS documented originally built as 455 HO Ram Air..Car was originally white with white vinyl top and sandalwood(light beige) interior, and was a console 400 TH automatic..California car all it's life..I've owned the car about 16 years..Previousowner had plans to make it into a race car,I bought it as a shell..He sold off the original frame, front clip, interior, and more..I gathered up many parts to piece it back to "As Born With"..I blasted and painted this frame, painted andinstalledthe body, and then was just doing a mock up of other pieces. But got it running, and was fun to drive as-is,never got around to finishing the paint..I call it the "Calico Coupe"..I had this 455,Richmond 5 Speed, and 12 bolt rear end set aside for another car, installed in this one about 7 years ago..I've only driven it about 2,000 miles since..
The frame is from a dry never wrecked Cali car..No VIN on frame..I had the original doors, but these now on the car were much nicer..Fenders are aftermarket/reproductions that need work to fit, need "gaping" at the doors, and a few dings and dents worked out..Front bumper and trunk lid are originals..Both need repair..Rear bumper is a good core, needs re-chrome..Tail lights are both cracked..Hood is fair to good and has not yet been trimmed to fit the upper Ram Air parts(RA parts not pic'd but 90% complete)..Interior: Speedo is not original, original mileage unknown..Was off the road from about mid 90's to about 2012..Seats,carpet,head liner were re-covered/installedabout 7 years ago..The guy did a nice job,but both sail panels need minor attention..New visors and dash cap also 7 years ago..Package tray is getting faded/wrinkled..New door panels, arm rest pads/bases,new head rests added last month..Plastics on the back and bottoms of the bucket seats are old/used vinylsprayed..No radio, kick panels were cut for small speakers, dash bezel un-cut good condition,no dash vents or ducting..Car was originallya non-air condition car,I was trying to convert to OEM AC..But the inside HAVC box is from Chevelle and the vacuumports are different..Car was originally non-tilt wheel,I've added correct tilt steering column..All new door locks and keys..Two pair of keys, door andignition match, then glove box and trunk match..
Motor:'70 455 HO 370 HP,is XF code shows from Grand Prix..Date code H139 = 8/31/69..Motor was rebuilt about 1991,was on an engine stand until set into this car..I believeit was .030 over..Sounds healthy, runs good..Valve covers are Ansen cast aluminum..Correct heads and intake..Q-Jet carb..Ram Air.. Pic'd is the lower air cleaner and non-RA scoops,I also have/including the upper pan, scoop flappers, bracket and pull cable, and repro open scoops(not pic'd yet)..Rear End: 12 Bolt non-Posi 2.71 (original was 12 Bolt non-Posi 3.07 ratio)Transmission: Richmond Street 5 Speed "4+1, carry over from Richmond's take over of Doug Nash, was in production up to about 3 years ago..This was new-old-stock up 'til this car,so it only has about 2,000 miles on it..Theseare 1-1 5th gear, with a Granny 3.28 1st gear..So 3.28 1st gear x 2.71 rear is 8.8888 ..That's like a 4.04 rear gear if with a Muncie 4 speed with a 2.20 1st gear..2.20 Muncie 1st x 4.04 rear is 8.8888..But then with this Richmond,5th/final drive is a freeway friendly2.71..Great combo, and with this Hurst Shifter, the shifter hump and console fit as if a stock 4 speed..I do have a performance 400 TH trans, and a good black auto console/shifter,not included but could work a deal to exchange/swap/convert it back to auto trans..Exhaust: '70 date code Ram Air manifolds(OEM not repros)..Slight over sized 2 1/2" Pypes full stainless steel, with X pipe and over sized stainless tips..Sounds good, not too loud..Suspension: Rubber body mount bushings, but all suspension bushings are urethane..Ball joints,center-link,idler arm,tie rod ends all replaced(but went with larger/stronger '71 size tie rod ends)..Last pic shows tubular A-Arms,it's now back to stock A-Arms with urethane bushings..Rear has Genuine Suspension Anti-Hop Bars with boxed lower arms and stock anti-sway bar..Front anti-sway bar is over-size 1 1/4"..If that bugs you,I can swap for a stock 1 1/8"..Looks jacked up,but rear springs are stock height, fronts are cut stock springs, making it way low..I think a pair of 2" drop rear springs would get the rake just right..KYB shocks all around..Brakes: Stock type 11" front disc, but slotted/cross drilled, stock rear cast iron drums..All new brake lines and hoses..New Master Cylinderand Vacuum Booster..Fuel: New fuel, vapor, return lines..New stainless steel gas tank(shinny),stainless sending unit and straps..Radiator: Aluminum..New hoses..Body: Though it was a Cali car,it was a vinyl top car with some typical rust at the rear window to trunk lid panel..I replaced that panel, and triedto eliminate the evidence of a vinyl top..There was also minor rust at the corners of the rear of each rear wheel arch, small patch cut-n-welded..Current red paint is starting to fade, might wet sand and paint other parts to match..Better to just paint everything..That's a Porsche Red anyway..Wheels/Tires: Centerline Convo Pros 15x6 with 215/65 fronts, and 15x8-1/2 with 275/60 rears..Wheels are about 15-16 years old, tires are about 2 years with maybe 500 miles..I was running 16" Torq Thrust wheels, but tires started showing cracks this past fall,so robbed these from my El Camino..Electrical: New engine harness..All lights, signals, flashers work as they should..
"AS BORN OPTIONS": PHS shown in 2nd to last pic..(last pic is 7+ years ago body off)VIN: 242 (GTO ) 37 (Hard Top/Coupe) 0 (1970) Z (built in Freemont Calif) 123429 (Run Number)Color: C1 =(C) Polar White code 10 with (1)White Vinyl Top..Trim: 57 =257 Sandalwood

This car is fun to drive, has a great start to being a nice driver..I just have too many car projects, getting too old to finish them, and want to concentrate on my convertible..As ugly as this is,funny how I get complemented every time I drive it..It could go closer to original,or since it's not a numbers match, could go towards the LS Resto-Mod trend..If you don't like the motor,I can use it in a '70 convertible..You don't like the Pypes Stainless Exhaust,I can use it on another car..You don't like "Three Pedals" and want a 400 TH trans,I can help..You don't like the Centerline wheels,I'll find a home for them..Included but not pic'd are most of the RA parts, window trim as noted, set of new weather strip for doors, above side windows,trunk,hood..Listing is as a buy-now or offer as pic'd and noted, but if offer is less wheels,or motor,or convert backto autoect, please contact me beforemaking an offer..
