Description:

1985 Pontiac Grand Prix LE

This vehicle is a great example of a Florida survivor car. The vehicle was sold new at a dealership in Clearwater, FL. The original ownership spanned until 2016. The original owner sold it to her long-term mechanic who essentially sold the vehicle for the lady. I purchased the vehicle in the fall of 2016 and am the third registered owner. During my ownership of the vehicle I have kept it garaged and never tagged or driven. The vehicle came with a box of service records dating back to a warranty service at the purchasing dealer in 1985. When I purchased the vehicle, it came with three sets of original GM Keys. The owner had only used one set, while the other two sets are factory new.
Interior:
The vehicle is in very good condition for its age. The interior is all original upholstery. The dashboard has no cracking or fading which is very rare to see at this age for a Florida vehicle. All the glass is in great condition. It appears that all the glass is factory installed and the windshield has never even been replaced. The power windows, door locks and power trunk release are fully functional. I went through the dashboard and vacuum tested all the A/C actuators, hoses and vacuum switches. I replaced the vacuum switch, repaired the firewall vacuum hose connections and replaced the common cold-hot temp cable which breaks on the G-body vehicles. The factory radio was sent out in 2018 to 1 Factory Radio in Richmond, VA to have it refurbished and an Aux input added. The speakers are all factory and have never been replaced. Three of the four speakers work. The RR speaker has deteriorated with age. The trunk area is also in very good condition. The original spare, jack and hardware are all included. The spare tire looks almost new. This vehicle is equipped with the factory Tach and rally gauge pack. The tachometer and speedometer work perfect. The oil pressure gauge is getting lazy and bounces around sometimes. The coolant temp gauge works smoothly but reads high even after the sender being replaced. I have confirmed with an IR temp gun and my OBD-I scan tool that when the engine is at 190F operating temp the gauge reads about 215F. Fuel gauge and voltage gauge work perfect.
Mechanical:
Equipped with the original 5.0L (305) 4-barrel Q-Jet carburetor, 4-speed 200R4 Transmission and original 10-bolt rear axle. The carb could probably use a re-built, takes usually 2 crank cycles after sitting a week. Once warmed up it fires right up. It has the original exhaust system including a catalytic converter. The cat-back exhaust was replaced in 2016 with a factory replacement system. A few months ago, I replaced the valve stem seals. I also adjusted the rocker arms (with the engine running) while I had it apart. The valve stem seal replacement corrected the oil smoking, so it is now smoke free. I have flushed the cooling system extensively and had a local radiator shop boil and repair the original all metal radiator. During my ownership I have replaced a few electrical connectors on the engine that were in poor condition such as the ECT sensor for the ECU and the mixing solenoid on the carb. I have also replaced the oil pressure and engine temp gauge senders. The A/C operates and blows cold. The compressor does seem to cycle a bit frequent and I am guessing it needs a top off on the freon. I have not added freon or even put gauges on the system since I have owned the vehicle. The power steering system is in good condition; hoses feel good, gear box and pump do not leak. The engine bay has been cleaned up quite a bit and bits and pieces re-painted. The Air injection pump system has been removed and capped. The EGR valve was removed and blocked off due to a vacuum leak of its diaphragm. Ignition timing has been set to 4 degrees and all new wires, plugs, cap and rotor have been installed.
Body and Undercarriage:
The body is accident and dent free. The vehicle has only been re-painted once which was in October of 1998. I have the paperwork for the re-paint from the original owner. The wheels are the original factory 14" wheels. The tires are aged and need replaced. This has been a Florida car its entire life and the undercarriage is in good condition. The only rust this vehicle has is a small spot on the passenger door bottom corner which is surface rust. There is a photo of this door location.
Clean Florida title in hand. I am located in Tampa, FL. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
