1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ

Survivor car! Clean, original, unmolested, V8, console, bucket seats, tilt, cruise, cold A/C

Relisting due to non-paying bidder. Anyone with less than 10 feedback must contact me or your bid will be cancelled.

Here's a hard to find, clean and unmolested 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with two-tone green factory paint, landau top, and matching original cloth (velour) interior. It has the original Pontiac 301 V8 with 2-bbl Rochester Dual-jet and automatic transmission with factory floor/console shift. Cold A/C and hot heat, cruise control, tilt wheel, and factory AM/FM radio.

The good:

The following has been repaired / replaced within the last 2 years (much of the work done as preventive maintenance):

  • New front springs, shocks, brake pads, tie rods, and upper ball joints
  • Front end alignment
  • New rear brakes (wheel cylinders, shoes, etc.)
  • New (rebuilt) Rochester Dualjet carb from National Carburetor (original carburetor also included if you want it)
  • New fuel pump and soft lines
  • New hard fuel line
  • New belts & hoses
  • New radiator
  • New heater core
  • New vacuum lines
  • New 15" BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires
  • Professionally refinished 15" Pontiac OEM snowflake wheels
  • New plug wires
  • New windshield
  • Gauge surround (to replace the one that was peeling - original will be included)

The car was undercoated / rust-proofed when new, so either Rusty Jones or Ziebart. As such, the body is in good shape and also has no dents or dings. The rear bumper fillers were replaced and painted by the second owner and the front bumper fillers appear to be original and in good shape. The landau vinyl top is in good shape with no rips, tears, or dry rot and cleans up nicely.

The not-so-good

There are few rust spots that I can find on the body; one the size of a nickel on the lower right of the trunk lid, one behind the rear passenger wheel and a small poke through behind the rear driver wheel. There is also some surface rust on the lower doors which seems to be common with these cars because of clogged drain plugs. Please see the pics.

That said, it is almost a 40-year-old car. It has some imperfections as expected and may need other maintenance. The car could use new door weather stripping (driver side) which I will include with the sale. It's most likely time for new speakers too.

Also coming with the car:

·The car is originally a 14" wire wheel car, and a set of the wire wheel hubcaps are included with the sale. I don't have the original steel wheels.

·I also have the car's PHS documents and I will include with them with the sale (see photo)

·Two extra gauge clusters that add a temp, voltage, and oil pressure gauge if the new owner cares to install them.

·Speedo / clock cluster which I will include (although I don't know if they work, but I was told they did when removed. The clock does not work in the car, presently).

·The original owner's manual for the car along with some other paperwork that came with the car when bought new.

This car is almost 40 years old and comes with NO WARRANTY either expressed or implied. The car is registered in New York and I have a clear title with no liens. I will assist with shipping or in-person pickup of the car at your expense. I can hold the vehicle to give you time to arrange for shipping if that's your preference. A non-refundable deposit of $250 will be required at the end of the auction to hold the vehicle for shipping/pickup. I will accept a PayPal deposit. Cash payment or certified bank check for the remaining purchase price of the car.

See my 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence. If you need additional photos, please ask first. If you'd like to talk to me about the car, my name is John. Message me and I will provide a phone number. I've removed my number from the ad because of all of the tire-kickers and offers to assist me in selling or transporting the car.

Thank you and happy bidding and I'm sure the lucky winner will be thrilled with this blast from the past!
