41 years ago this year, the movie Smokey And The Bandit hit theaters around the country. It was the beginning of the huge popularity of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Sadly, we lost the star of that movie, Burt Reynolds just this month. Whenever you see a black T/A with a gold eagle, you can't help but think of Burt and that movie.
We are presenting this 4 owner actual mileage 76 Pontiac. The original owner purchased the car on February 9th 1976, at C & R Buick Pontiac in Clarion, Iowa. He sold the car to the second owner on September 9th, 2003, at which time it had 56,779 miles. We have a signed letter from the first owner stating it's original miles. A 3rd owner bought it somewhere between 2003 and 2009. Our seller, the 4th owner purchased it in 2009. He has had it in his collection since then and has put very few miles on it.

We have the original build sheet for the car, and the original dealers copy of the order.

You can see the options above on the build sheet. We found 2 different sites with 2 different numbers of units built. We do know that there were far fewer of the 455ci 4 speed black and gold with a/c built than the others.
Pontiac celebrated its 50th anniversary year in 1976. To commemorate this event, Pontiac unveiled a special Trans Am option at the 1976 Chicago Auto Show. Painted in black with gold accents, this was the first "anniversary" Trans Am package and the first production black and gold special edition. A removable T-top developed by Hurst was optional, but proved problematic. This car is NOT the anniversary edition, but is still a very collectible car. It is a 455 4 speed car with a/c and is very original.
The interior is original except for the headliner which had finally become brittle and was falling down. The current owner had it replaced just this past month. There were a few other interior items replaced by the 3rd owner, such as the steering wheel and some other small parts.
We have a signed letter from the original owner stating the mileage when he sold it to
The car has factory air which is working very well.
The Delco radio is working, but the 8 track is not.
The owner just had a Centerforce dual friction clutch installed.
One of the previous owners at some point had the car painted. It has been a while because it is showing it's age. There are some scratches, and some chips on thelower rocker panels, and a some very small door dings on the driver's door. All in all, this is a very nice driver quality example.
The 455 engine runs strong.
The original exhaust manifolds are in the trunk. The 2nd owner installed headers to increase performance of the 455 engine.
The rear end has been rebuilt.
The undercarriage is very original and you can see where some of the undercoating has chipped away. The frame is solid.
This is the chipping on the rocker panel we spoke of earlier. As we said, this is an older paint job and has it's flaws. That however does not take away from the the mechanical aspect of this car.
There are 3 or 4 very small door dings on the driver's door, and some small chips around the car.
This is your opportunityto own a very collectible unrestored 76 Trans Am.
