1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am for Sale 1978 Pontiac Trans-Am for Sale Buy This Classic 1978 Pontiac Firebird T-Tops, 6.6L 400 CI Engine, Shaker Hood, Snowflake Wheels, Beautiful Gold Firebird Trans AM!

I am pleased to offer one of the quintessential American Muscle Cars: A 1978 Pontiac Trans Am for sale! What makes this "quintessential" for me is this Firebird is complete with T-Tops and 6.6L SHAKER Hood. Most Gold Trans Ams for sale have a tan interior so this was likely a special order car as this car is Gold over Black. Additionally this car features the deluxe chrome package which includes wide chrome on the tops of the doors, the tops of the fender corners and around the hood by the windshield. The chrome treatment, the fisher T-Tops and multi-colored Trans AM lettering and the six-color Firebird on the hood help to make this Gold metallic 1978 Trans Am look spectacular from any angle.

This Firebird is the same year as the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am (1978). That movie helped to launch T-Top'ed Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams (and mustaches) into the psyche of every young child! I wanted a Trans Am since I first saw that movie at just 6 years old, and this car has been an absolute pleasure to own. I'm confident this Firebird will provide the next owner with not only a ton of nostalgia but also many new fond memories.

The interior on this car looks original and it is in good shape for its age. The dash is nice and not cracked. The headliner isn't torn but there are a few areas where the fabric is loose around the edges. The seats have no tears and are comfortable. They do show some wear here and there as you can see in the photos. The odometer reads 18,375 which I would guess is most likely 118k.

I replaced the weather stripping under the t-tops with new seals, so the car really looks clean and sharp with the T-tops off. As an added bonus they should seal really well now too. The car has new doorsills, a new surround for the shifter, and I have new side window scrapers with chrome that I haven't installed but will come with the car. There is a decent stereo with a tape deck in the dash and the gauges work except for the tach. The turn signal switch was replaced by the previous owner, and he forgot to reinstall the little electric clip for the cruise control. But that clip comes with the car and if reinstalled the cruise will work again. I replaced the center counsel arm rest cover with a good, brand new replacement cover. The interior looks great over all, and it's a fun cover even with the glass T-Tops on.

The wheels are the factory snowflake style, and the tires are nearly new. The car comes with an (unmounted) extra full-size tire in the trunk.

As you can see from the photos the paint is very nice overall. The exterior of the Trans Am has been repainted once and all the decals were new after the paint job. There are a few imperfections in the paint which I point out in the Close-Up Photo Gallery and in this auction (there is a link to even more photos below the list of photos in this auction). The most notable blemishes are on the passenger side near the glass T-Top, a bit of paint chipped on the rear spoiler corner, and on the front ground effects just in front of the front driver's side wheel. The passenger side door handle is split on the outside and to open the car you have to use the left side of the handle. The inside handle and driver's side handles work just fine.

This Trans Am has been in my garage since I bought back in May, and like the previous owner, I've stored it during inclement weather and during the winter months. I've always wanted a "shaker hood" T/A, and man, this one was sure a fun find. It's been awesome to represent my business, Sunset Classics, on Facebook with photos of this car ever since the night I bought it back in May of 2013. But I have about 24 cars at the moment and this one displaces about two of my VWs in my garage. So, if I'm going to stay in business I can't keep 'em all. It's fun to share the pleasure of owning these awesome and inspiring classic cars.

The 6.6L 400 CI engine starts right up and the car runs great. The suspension feels largely untouched and the car can be a bit clunky going down a rough road, but it's a great cruiser on the freeway. The automatic transmission shifts well and the car feels to have plenty of power (though admittedly I'm used to driving classic VWs lol). The car will "mark it's spot" a little bit when parke, but I haven't had to top off fluids since I've owned it. It's been a great car for me and It's been a pleasure to own.

This looks to be a fairly highly optioned Trans Am. The car has A/C though the belt isn't hooked up to the condenser and it hasn't been used in years.

If you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer them the best I can. Just page through the two photo galleries below this description and you'll have a very good feel on what to expect when this car arrives in your driveway! You can hear the 6.6L 400 CI engine run in the videos below the photo galleries, and I went overboard with photography so you have over 300 photos to help you determine the condition of this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am for sale!!! -John Snell 612-805-2428.
