Description:

1980 Pontiac Bonneville

Up for auction is my 1980 Pontiac Bonneville. I am the second owner of this car. It was built in September of 1979 and originally purchased on October 22, 1979 with 30 miles on it in Montrose, Colorado where it still resides after 38 years. (I have some of the original paperwork and all owner's manuals that will be included with the car.)

Since purchasing this beautiful two-tone Bonneville on February 4, 2013, I have driven it less than 900 miles in five years! In that time, I have had it serviced regularly (oil, filter, etc.) with new parts installed such as a water pump, radiator hoses, air filter, battery, new windshield washer pump, new driver's side window guide, new muffler, etc. (I have the records and will give those to the new owner.)

What I know about this car...the original owners were a husband and wife who owned a local restaurant and tavern.This was the wife's car.Both of them are deceased. It has never been smoked in and was always garaged!I have the car stored in a secure facility and have never driven it in the rain or snow. I am the second owner and purchased it from the estate.

The car is fully equipped with the following (see attached photos):

·Power Windows, Power Locks and Power Driver's Seat;

·Cruise control;

·Intermittent windshield wipers;

·Remote driver's side mirror;

·Full instrumentation and factory clock (it works!) and an after-market AM/FM/Cassette radio;

·Air Conditioning (not working);

·Wire Wheel Covers (some are dinged, scraped and scratched - again...an age and use thing);

·Optional two tone paint ("Richmond Gray" - Paint Code 85U and "Montreaux Maroon" - Paint Code 76L) with factory pin-striping;

·Optional Landau vinyl top (which is in excellent condition!);

·4.9L (301 cu. in.) Pontiac manufactured V8 with 4 barrel carburetor;

·Automatic Transmission (I'm not sure which model transmission it is...sorry!)

It is, as far as I can tell, all original, however, there is evidence that they had the trunk lid repainted and the "torsion bars" that help hold the trunk lid open were missing (I purchased replacements and also replaced the small gas struts that assist in the opening of the trunk lid).There are a couple of small dents on the edge of the roof above the passenger side door (see photo) as well as some minor door dings and dings in trim, however, none of these are beyond repair with a Dent Doctor type firm.

The headliner, carpet and upholstery are in like new condition. No sagging of the headliner like you see in a lot of GM cars of the era. There's a small tear in the fabric on the driver's seat near the top (roughly 2"x 3/4"). The seat belt guides that should be on the top of the front seats are missing and were not on the car when I bought it.

The right rear tail light bezel is cracked and a small piece missing, however, I purchased a replacement that I never installed and will include that with the sale.There's a small crack in the grill next to the Pontiac emblem. It's hardly noticeable. And the body side rub strips are showing their age and will probably have to be replaced at some point (you can find these - NOS or aftermarket - on eBay).

The car is mechanically sound.It runs very well and drives like a dream thanks to its body-on-frame design.It shifts well and all accessories work except the air conditioning (why, I don't know and living in Colorado, I haven't really had to worry about it getting too hot on those days that I've driven the car!). There's a small oil leak. My mechanic thinks it may be a hose or gasket but hasn't found the source because it is so minor. The tires have very little mileage on them and are in great shape.

I've described things as best as I can as to the condition of this vehicle. As one could expect too, this vehicle, to be clear, carries no warranty whatsoever and non is implied. Remember that you're looking at and perhaps bidding on a car that will be 39 years old in September of this year! If I've left something out, I'll revise the listing. The minor issues are far outweighed by the scarcity of this hard to find 2 door beauty!

A bit of history that I found about these cars might be of assistance if you're looking for more information on this year of Bonneville:

"For 1980, all GM B-bodies received revised styling and aerodynamic improvements along with reduced weight.

The standard engine for Bonneville was Pontiac's new 301 cubic-inch V8 rated at 135 horsepower and optional engines included a 170-horsepower 350 or 180-horsepower 400 cubic-inch V8. A 185-horsepower Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 was also an option. In later years, increasingly stringent fuel-economy standards mandated by the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations would lead to the discontinuation of the larger engines with a 231 cubic-inch Buick V6 becoming the standard engine on Bonneville coupes and sedans for 1980 and 1981 with the only optional V8s offered including 265 and 301 cubic-inch Pontiac-built gasoline engines or an Oldsmobile-built 350 cid diesel powerplant.

The Bonneville and Catalina, already the smallest-selling of GM's B-body line, suffered a serious drop in demand following the economic recession that began in the spring of 1979. With that, GM decided to pull the plug at the end of the 1981 model year. Along with them went the 301 engine, marking the end of Pontiac V8s. From now on, the division would use Chevrolet engines.”

Please review the condition and any condition notes for the exact condition of this item. All pictures are of the actual vehicle you're bidding on.If you would like more photos or photos of specific things, please let me know. I could only post 24 photos and did my best to give you an overall view of the car...inside, outside, underside and under the hood!

Shipping is the buyer's responsibility. eBay has quite a few options available to you.The car is available for local pickup too.
