Description:

1970 Pontiac Firebird

Up for bid is a rare and highly sought after 1970 Firebird Formula 400.Sadly, he shell looks like it has rested at the bottom of theAtlantic for the betterpartof its life, ndunfortunately, he car wasdisassembled by thelastowner. On the up side, t is an amazingly complete, ighly desirable early second gen with all the right options. If you are good with a welder, r willing to write checks to someone who is, ead on.

This car looks like it was ordered to match the Lucerne Blue Formula that was a centerpiece of the 1970 ads and dealer brochure. "Any Licenced Driver is Eligible to Participate"should come to mind for anyFirebird enthusiast.Interestingly, his particularcar was sold new at the Pontiac Motor Division Retail Store in Pontiac Michigan. See photo of the PHS invoice. The car was ordered with purpose to be strikingly beautiful and fast. Notable options that were checked include the L-74 Ram Air 400, -20 Muncie sans console, afe-T-Track rear, ally Gauges with Tach, ally II's, nd Custom Interior. An AM radio with RearSpeaker, ower Brakes and Steering, ecessed Wipers, ecor Mouldings, nd Custom Beltsrounded outthe order. A truly classy and potent machine!

As previously noted, ally II's were ordered. This car has 5 datematched JW 15 inch rally II's! Any pontiac guyknows the value and rarity of these wheels. Finding four that matchis like hitting the lotto Win this auction and you getthe sparetoo! Typically, o receive the TA's larger rally's, ou had to order the F60-15 white letter tires. Strangly, o tire option was specified on the invoice. This would generally mean the buyer received 14" rally's and blackwall tires. The car has the wheels andyour guess is as good as mine as to how ithas them. It could have been a factory flub, r theymay have been aquired sometime in the car's life. There is some hand written math on the order form, o maybe they were swapped at the dealer? Anyway, ll wheels are dated 1/26/70, hich puts them at the right age to be placed on a car shipped on 3-16-70. The wheels are rough and need restored. Surface rust and some pitting are evident. No majorly wallered lug holes. One wears an F60-15 polyglas GT and another a G60! Totally cool. Oh yeah, rim rings too.

Curiously, he car also hasthe wider Esprit rocker mouldings which is wierd. I am guessing they ended up on the car after it left the factory. Maybe dealer installed?? Please check out the picturesof the vin and body tag and rest assured this was not your mother's Esprit!

So here is the bad news. There is no ram air spec manual trans codedquadrajet, am Air exhaust manifolds, riginal alternator, rhurst shifter. All major bummers. I did not receive these with the car so please don't think I am holding out on the winning bidder. The car came with a service replacement auto carb which I sold years ago. I amprobably missing other miscellanous pieces of the car since it was taken apart whenI found it.Nothing else major that I can tell though. Ask me about specific partsif you are a serious bidder and I will let you know if they are there.

The car came out of Queens, Y andas such is extremely rusty. Fenders, uarters, ockers, loors, runk, nd dash all have rust. I have seen sicker dogs get well, ut this is a major project that is best left to a seasoned body man. The original ram air hood has a few cracked vents on the driver side. The interior has that lovely vermin aroma. The engine is seized but does not look damaged externally in any way. I have not removed the oil pan or heads.

The good news is that the car does have a clear Illinois title in my name.It retain its numbers matching block, ell housing,M-20 transmission, 2 bolt rear end, eads, ntake, nd distributor, nd ram air air cleaner.

I will do my best to promptly respond to questions. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. I intend to let the auction go to the end so please don't ask me to end the auction early. I don't plan to part out or separate items from the listing. One winning bid gets everything. Expect the reserve to be around the fair market value of the rare matching parts.

I require a $500 deposit thru paypal within 48 hours of auction end. The balance of the purchase price is due in 10 days in the form of cashiers check or cash. I can store the car out of the weather for up to a month after auction end, ut payment in full is still due within 10 days of auction end.
