1964 Pontiac GTO

1964 Pontiac Two-Lane Blacktop GTO

This build was inspired by the '55 Chevy in the movie Two-Lane Blacktop. Started with a super nice, CA blackplate rust free 1964 Tempest/Lemans. Body, floors, trunk all clean and rust free. Car spent it's whole life in sunny California. Even comes with the original black/yellow CA plates. A great Street/Strip street machine, ready to enjoy.

This car gets a ton of attention, super fast, yet cruises nicely at just over 2100 rpm in OD. Ran low 12's @ 113 mph last summer, should go 11's with more tuning. This summer has been really busy and I haven't had time to get it out as much as I'd like, so time to find another Pontiac enthusiast to enjoy the car. Alot of $$ spent.

Engine is a Pro-built 461 (pump gas) Pontiac Stroker - Apprx 550 HP. Chassis Dyno'd at 485 HP at rear wheels. '75 YF 400 with stroker kit. Kauffman 85cc D-Port Aluminum heads (flow 310 cfm). Schneider Hyd roller. Intake Manifold Offenhauser 360 deg dual quad Modified to flow 290 cfm, Carburetors(s) 2x4 Edelblocks. Earl's Dual Quad fuel lines and linkage. Gear reduction mini starter. Remote oil and trans filters. Electric water pump. Doug's headers 4 into 1, Full exhaust w/ removable blockoffs with baffled Car Chemistry turnouts that sound wicked. Strong oil pressure, runs cool.

Transmission: Street/Strip Built '86 BOP GNX 2004R ProTrans w/ finned aluminum pan, B&M Pro Ratchet Shifter, Continental 3500 Stall converter. Rear End GM 10.2 4pin 4.33 Posi, GM axles BOP 28 spline. Holley Electric Fuel pump, B&M Trans cooler, battery relocated to trunk. Griffin Aluminum Radiator, electric fan, car runs cool. Line Loc, full gauges. Suspension - 4 wheel discs, air bags in rear. TWO-LANE BLACKTOP II: THE SEQUEL - ONE LAST RIDE

The 55 Chevy met it's demise on a rainy night when the driver had to put it in a ditch to avoid another vehicle. Not much was saveable so it was parked in 1974 in a barn on property owned by THE MECHANIC.

Back in 1972, the 55 took on a pretty fast 64 GTO for pinks, and won. The 64 was parked in the barn next to the totalled 55 for the next 40+ years.

THE DRIVER and THE MECHANIC reconnect and start thinking about the good old days. They decide to resurrect the GTO using parts from the 55 to carry on their mission to conquer the Two Lane Blacktop again. Not bad for home grown. It's alot more than that sonny. You wanna find out? Make it three yards and you got your self an automobile race.
