Description:

1971 Plymouth Cuda convertible

The "BELFOUR 71 'CUDA" (V-code 4 speed convertible)

1987 was NCAA champion, Olympic gold medalist & NHL Hall of famer Eddie Belfour's rookie year in the NHL, Ed celebrated his achievements by purchasing this all numbers matching 1971 Plymouth 'cuda convertible 440 six barrel, 4 speed car (1 of 5 built). The previous owner had partially disassembled the car but, it was all there so, Ed & his friend Jeff loaded everything up & took it home.

Over the next 20 years, the car sat, as Ed owned many other high end Mopars including 2 '71 hemicuda hardtops, also, his hockey career was very demanding. Then, in 2006 he made the decision to restore it with the goal of an O.E. Gold certification at the Mopar Nationals in 2007 at Columbus Ohio. As usual, Ed achieved his goal & the car scored 95.42%. With less than 5-10 miles on the restoration Ed decided the best thing to do was keep the car "new in the box" & put it in proper storage with his 71 hemicudas, another cuda convertible & a 68 Barracuda factory lightweight hemicar.

Roll the calendar forward to 2016, Ed & his son Dane decided to start distilling high end whiskeys & this coming fall will be the official launch of "Belfour Spirits”. Ed knows this will be a very demanding new career & the convertible will not get enjoyed as planned, so, maybe it's time to find the next caretaker of the ragtop. My name is Paul Christophersen (Paul's Suite 426 Restorations), I've been dealing in & restoring Mopars for over 30 years & have been dealing with Ed for about 20 years now. Since I was successful marketing both his 71 hemicudas, I got the call to find a new caretaker for the convertible. It is now at my shop here in Lincoln, Nebraska & just received a proper service & clean up.

About the car: All numbers matching born with drivetrain & small parts (dist., carbs etc.), unfortunately the original fender tag was lost before Ed bought the car but about 80% of the original build sheet confirms what the car is, an O.E. Gold certification from the Mopar Nationals, it was an above average E- body with only minor rust previous to the restoration, professional restoration by Jeff at Carman Customs in Freeland Michigan, N.O.S. fenders plus many other N.O.S. parts were used & it has less than 10 miles since completion.

About the Broadcast Sheet: In a perfect world, there would be a mint broadcast sheet. Time unfortunately deteriorated part of this car's original broadcast sheet but fortunately, about 70% remained intact & I was able to lay out any loose pieces & press them between 2 pieces of glass to end up with about 80% that fully documents what this car is! Multiple closeup pictures are attached. Of the VIN you can read the BS clearly, there are traces of the bottom edge of the 2 & 7 (convertible only), the V1 is very clear, the sequence number clearly shows the 2, it is missing the first 5 and then 5342 is legible. V3X black convertible top is very clear P37 power convertible top is very clear, 755 for the 4 speed transmission is very clear 034 & 024 leaf springs are very clear D56 for 3.54 Dana 60 (Track Pack) is very clear as is the 1 for sure grip, 59 for "959" radiator, GB5 blue body paint, 72 for the 3438172 alternator is legible & correct 16,12 & 69 are clear for the correct fan assembly. Also documented clearly on the broadcast sheet are the wheel codes, fr. & rear shock codes, tailpipes, chrome tips, master cyl., brakes, bucket seats, sill plates, wheel opening moldings, sport hood, hood pins, belt moldings, dual exhaust, exhaust tips, suspension, shocks, power steering, steering wheel & a couple other small items. This is guaranteed to be the original, born with, broadcast sheet for this car.

If you are looking at this car, you're probably aware of Steven Juliano's automatic on the column 71 cuda conv. 440 6 Barrel that sold at Mecum's Indy auction this past May for about $1,000,050 plus the buyers fee, another 4 speed recently sold privately for around $1.5 million & don't forget the blue 71 hemicuda convertible that sold at Mecum's Seattle auction a couple years ago for $3.5 million. Those cars are now in what I call "Black Hole Collections”, this is probably the only all numbers matching 4 speed 71 V-code cuda convertible with a build sheet available. $975,000
