1957 Plymouth Belvedere
This is a great 1957 Plymouth 2 dr hardtop project car for restoration. The car is pretty complete, and the body is in overall decent condition. There are a couple of small holes in the floor pans, however, none would require full replacement. The car had been started on a mild customization, and was placed on a pickup truck chassis. Another correct Plymouth chassis has since been acquired, and the car is now on it. The chassis was cleaned and painted chassis black, and new brake lines installed. The body is not bolted to the replacement chassis, and is sitting on several 2 x 4 wood blocks. For that reason, the front clip alignment is not correct, as can be seen in the pictures. I do have most if not all of the body mount rubber spacers and bolts.
There were two modifications made to the body. One was the cutting out of a section of the trunk floor, I guess for a fuel cell or the like. You can see in the pictures, and it will need to be replaced. I have a very nice full trunk which will come out of a 1958 Plymouth and I have some pictures of that trunk floor. The other modification was to cut off the very front body mounts to the frame, I suppose to allow the car to be installed on the pickup frame. I will also include the necessary pieces cut from my 58 parts car so this car can be fixed.
The body is quite solid. Fenders and rocker panels are nice, and the lower rear quarter panels were replaced. The previous owner did fill in many of the holes in the body where factory trim was installed, so those will need to be opened up if you want to install the trim. I have a lot of trim for the car, but I do not know if it is all there. The glass is pretty good, however the windshield has some fogging around the edges and will likely need to be replaced. The seats have newer covers, done fairly nicely, but not factory and there are some small holes noticeable. The doors are from a Dodge, so the outside handles are different from a Plymouth. I can supply correct Plymouth handles, but you will have to weld in a piece of outside panel to form the correct contour for the Plymouth handles. The Dodge handles are recessed.
The engine is from a 1958 Plymouth, 318 with a 2 barrel carb. It is stuck, and will need to be rebuilt. There is also an automatic transmission setup, original with the push button controls in the dash. The torque convertor is not installed as it could not be done easily since the engine could not be turned. The bumpers are painted black, however they are straight and can be re-plated for original.
I cannot guarantee that all of the parts are there, but I think there aren't many missing. I have a open Kentucky title for the car.
I think this would make a great 57 Plymouth restoration project. I bought the car and the parts car, for some things that I needed to finish my 1958 Belvedere convertible.
