Description:

1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe

I have had this car for about 12 years and taken it to many shows. It is a Y13 1970 Dealer Demonstrator (Sample) made the forthcoming Luxury Barracuda, the Gran Coupe that was to be release that year and only that year. Yes, the Gran Coupes were only made for one year - 1970. Of the 7320 Gran Coupes built, only 1 in 10 or 732 were Hardtops with a 383-4 bbl HP motor and an Automatic. This car also has the Broadcast Sheet that shows it was made as a dealer demo, not for resale, made at the very beginning of production. These cars are referred to as a "Y13". In the top right corner of the Broadcast Sheet were it says, Lease / Sale, the "Y" section, it shows 13. These are extremely rare. Most cars were built for sale or from orders taken but this car was built to show off to the public. Because of this, it had all the options available to choose from on a Gran Coupe. Options included, 383-4bbl HP with the PowerBulgehood, automatic HP trans, 8¾" rear end with a 3.23 ratio, Air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, 6 way driver seat, wood grain steering wheel, Rallye instruments with tach and clock, Rallye wheels and the list goes on.
The car starts and runs great, doesn't burn oil and shifts hard and solid. The top half of the motor was done about 500 miles ago. I was told the motor was original and thetransmission was not when I bought the car but I have never checked myself. The power windows work but the AC doesn't. The compressor comes on but the air is not cold. It has the Redline interior and it is in great shape without rips or tears in the seats, dash and kick panels. It has the overhead consolette and the rear seat arm rests with ash trays. No one has smoked in this car since it was restored. It also has a professionally installed stereo with a big amp and sub woofer in the trunk which I think its stupid and never use. Why anyone would listen to music when you have an old school Big Block 383 with resonators piped out the rear valence is beyond me. The car was originally Tor Red with a black vinyl top but the prior owner removed the top and painted it "In Violet". That's Plum Crazy for Challenger fans and Purple for Chevy fans.
Why it's for sale. The car was painted about 13 years ago and the prep work was terrible. The paint has cracked and needs to be completely re done. My kids grew up polishing this car, going to shows, cars and coffee and even taking their prom dates in it. Now they're in college and it's time to move on. One of my daughters wants to keep it but starting a new career out of college will make it difficult for her to maintain this car. Because of the car's bad paint and the starting a new career situation, my wife and I talked to our daughter and agreed to offer the car for sale this week before she comes home from school. If it's sold great. If not, I will restore it again. This time for my daughter and it won't be for sale when I'm done.
If you're a Mopar or E Bodies fan, you know how unusual it is to come across a dealer demonstrator and if you watch a lot of auctions, you've seen what they go for there. Even if you are a Mopar fan you may not have heard of one before because they are that rare. If you have serious questions, please email me and I will respond each night to them as I can. If you'd like to inspect the car, please do. I have tried to be as accurate as possible in this listing so as not to mislead anyone. Look at the pics of the cracked paint up close. You can't see it well from a distance but up close it'sdisgusting. If you're abody-manor know one this could be a great car for you.
This is one of the most heavily optioned Barracudas made but you can decide for yourselves. The factory options list is below. The Y 13 Dealer Demonstrator Gran Coupe option makes this a very rare car. Thanks for looking.
Here is the decoded Broadcast sheet and fender tag information. (factory options list)
