1953 PLYMOUTH CRANBROOK BELVEDERE FHP CAR

HIGHWAY STAR
1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Belvedere
FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL TRIBUTE.
The Florida Highway Patrol is has a long and rich history of protecting Florida citizens.
This incredibly cool 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Belvedere was created as a tribute to the FHP, and was made to be a supervisor/radio car.
Lots of great nostalgic items come with the car, and it has been upgraded mechanically to make it useable in parades and for statewide travel to events.
Take a minute to review the 100 photos of the car, read the details, and then bid to win this unique, and truly one-of-a-kind piece of Automotive Americana.
This vehicle was built around 2000-2001 from what we can surmise. It was created to honor the men and woman Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol, and bears the colors, logo, and theme of the FHP.
The paint is very nice, shiny, and clean, but does show a few tiny stone chips, light marks, scuffs, and a ding or two from being used in parades, having kids experience it at events, and various photo shoots and things over the years. That being said, the car shows very well in person, and NEVER fails to draw a crowd at shows and events, all eager to photograph it and share it with friends and family.
The vintage roof dome emergency light/siren is NOT hooked up, as it is illegal for us to do so, but the 12V lines, battery tray, under dash control switches, and rear apron emergency flashers are included and intact if you wish to do something with them in the future once you take possession.
Under hood siren is not functional due to lack of power as well, but the prior owner said it wails like a banshee when operational.
Again, the 12V battery is NOT INCLUDED and would need to be hooked up if you wished to pursue functional lights and sirens, but it is illegal for us to sell it that way. Any questions, please call.
Spotlight on drivers side is non-functional and for display only.
The chrome and bright trim on the car shows as follows:
Outside side mirrors – very good
Door handles – very good
Wheel well trim – very good
Trunk handle and lock – very good
Gas cap – very good
Tail light surrounds – very good
Whip antenna – very good
Front bumper – good/very good with light signs of age and patina
Headlamp rings – very good
Grill trim – good with light patina and signs of age
Hood emblem – average with patina and wear
Windshield wiper arms – average with light patina
Hood ornament – average with patina and wear
Rear bumper – average/below average with areas of heavy patina
Tail pipe extension – below average with heavy patina
Window seals, door seals, vent window seals are all in very good condition.
Glass is in very good condition with no cracks, chips, or damage and no signs of laminate issues. Side glass has etched marks from someone who got overzealous with a buffer at some point in the cars life, but it does not detract from the overall appearance, or impede drivability and clear viewing.
Vent windows function as they should.
Side windows roll up and down with ease.
The cowl vent is functional.
Open the doors and you are met by a very nice interior.
Front and rear seats are in very good condition with no damage, rips, or tears. Material is soft and not brittle or flaky.
Door panels and rear panels are in very good condition as well, and finished in the complimentary upholstery to the seats.
Cardboard factory kick panels show wear and tear from normal use and age.
Headliner is solid and not sagging, but does show light staining in spots. We have NOT professionally detailed the car, so it very well may come out when you do.
Single driver side sun visor is in very good condition.
Carpeting is in very good condition throughout, except for a worn through area where the drivers right heel would rest. Cover it with a floor mat, and it will be your little secret. I just wanted to point it out.
Sill plates are in very good condition.
Door pulls and window rollers all appear original to the car, and have light patina and aging, but still look great.
Steering column has been refurbished, as well as the wheel and horn button. They look great.
Shift arm got the same treatment, with a chrome knob too.
Dash is original to the car, and has been redone. It looks great.
Gauges are intact, and the AMP and OIL appear to functioning correctly. The SPEEDO/ODOMETER do not because they are missing a cable. The fuel gauge is not working. The temp gauge is not working. I do not know why.
An aftermarket SunPRO temperature gauge was installed under the dash, and provides accurate temp readings to monitor while driving.
Dash lights work like they should, as does the key switch light. The panel dimmer switch works perfectly too.
Interior rear dome light works as it should, and has the passenger side flip switch.
Heat and defrost controls are non-functional, but intact.
Knobs for lights and wipers work as they should.
A vintage radio/phone unit is affixed to the floor, and has a dash mounted mic with cord and a chrome PHILCO speaker on the dash. It is non-functional.
A set of handcuffs for display purpose is included, but there is no key, so be careful!
Tires are modern radials sized 195/65R15 with at least 75% of the USEABLE tread life remaining, and no sign of damage or issue.
They are mounted on steel wheels with Plymouth hubcaps that look great, and show light normal patina.
Trunk is solid and clean, and shows signs of decades old repairs and dings.
The 12V battery tray mentioned earlier along with the cables are in the back for siren and light use if it is legal in your State.
Full size spare included is in spare condition, and is just for that purpose.
A box full of miscellaneous parts is included, along with a parts catalog and vintage service manual.
Extensive attention was paid to the power train to make sure the car was up to task for parade use and travel between barracks throughout Florida.
The flat 6 has new plugs, wires, rebuilt generator with Chrysler badging, new coil, new fan belt, and is clean and shows wonderfully with the hood up.
A newer Interstate 6 volt negative ground battery holds charge as it should.
A Chrysler badged CARTER 6-595 single barrel carb works great, and keep things simple too.
A custom made aluminum hi-flow radiator was installed to stop any overheating while cruising in Florida parades in 100 degree weather.
Firewall has two badges affixed to it, and one shows the body number of 311-14200.
The car starts easily, and idles cleanly. It is ready to drive moments after start-up, and does not stutter or stall when cold.
Clutch feel is solid and smooth, with no slippage felt, and sure engagement and take-up on the pedal.
Shifter works smoothly through all the gears, including reverse, and does not “pop out” of gear.
On the road, the car handles easily, and tracks straight and true.
Ride is smooth and floaty like a 50’s car should be, and it handles as well as any big old car does, especially with the modern radial tires.
It has good power throughout the gear range, and easily handles in-town and highway traffic. Gearing is from 1950 so it is NOT set up for 70mph cruising, but GPS verified 60mph trips are nothing for the car.
It DOES NOT GET HOT. You can leave it sit at idle for 20 minutes, come back, and the car is at 195. Stop and go for 45 minutes on the way to our beach this time of year saw it JUST kiss 200, but that’s as high as I have seen it. Keep in mind, it was made to specifically travel the State and be used in parades and things, so great care was taken to make sure it could handle it.
Braking is original drum system, and works good, with the typical heavy pedal and moderate pulling under extreme braking, and a smooth touch when cruising around normally.
The car is an absolute blast to drive, gets TONS of attention anywhere you take it, and is a favorite with kids at any car show or event.
Odometer shows 60,837 miles, but is non-functional at this time, and the title lists EXEMPT under mileage.
THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS:
WORKING HEADLIGHTS / DIMMER SWITCH NOT WORKING
WORKING TAIL LIGHTS
WORKING REAR PARKING LIGHTS
WORKING REAR BRAKE LIGHTS
WORKING DASH LIGHTS
WORKING WINDSHIELD WIPERS
THE HORN IS NOT FUNCTIONING
I think that’s about all I can tell you about it. If you have any other questions just call me at 941-286-0889.
