1930 Packard 726 Standard Eight Sedan

The slogan 'Ask the Man Who Owns One' is one of the most famous slogans in American History. It was the response given to most individuals when asked about a Packard. They were reliable, elegant, powerful, and quality automobiles. Their attention to detail and ingenuity were some of the key factors in making the company successful as Packard continued itsstrive for perfection and quality. They proved their vehicles in endurance races, where they won many of the cross-country reliability runs. The company continued to produce bigger and better automobiles and they positioned their vehicles to challenge the largest and most exciting luxury cars. The cars came at a price, usually higher than most other manufacturers.

This car has gone through a meticulous restoration that took from 2007 to 2011 to come to total completion. Approximately $60,000 was spent and it now presents beautifully, and runs very well because during this restoration time, the engine made its way from Arkansas to upstate New York for its rebuild. It has approximately 2,000 miles on it since being redone.

Exterior
All steel body panels are painted in a light gray, but it seems to have just a little powder blue tint added to them. The all steel wheels are also in this color, as are all window surrounds, hood, and rear of the car. Black curved fenders, and a black roof and passenger compartment surround, add a wonderful and tasteful contrast on this car. From the woven chair cane pattern of the radiator grille, to the door handles, mirrors, headlights and front bumper, the chrome is brilliant, and near perfect. Even the goddess of speed on the radiator cap is soaring along in excellent condition. On the rear bumper some rust and de-lamination of the chrome is noted. A large black trunk is strapped to the rear of the car and sits on a folding chromed luggage rack. Noted are 2 matching spare tires neatly tucked into the front fenders on either side.

Interior
Luxurious gray fabric covers the door panels, which appear to have silver window cranks and door lever toppers in the upper wood rail of the doors. A large tuck and roll front bench seat has enough padding it it one may want to consider it as a Turkish Chair. The rear seat, not to be outdone by the front seat, has the identical tuck and roll overstuffed look, but has added arm rests. There are copious amounts or rear leg room and this area is covered with pristine black carpet. All door windows have wood surrounds at the windows, and windows are all operational. In the rear bench area, the windows have the wood surrounds, but also have the luxury of an added pull-down roll shade. A near perfect mahogany wood dash front and a few gauges in oval form, as well as indicator gauges in eyebrow form. The dash is fronted by an original steering wheel in nice condition. Black carpet and "ask the man who owns one" embroidered floor mats.

Drivetrain
Opening the cowled hood, we are greeted by a nearly showroom condition long Inline 8 cylinder consisting of a 320ci engine with a 1 barrel carburetor and a 3 speed manual transmission. It is a stunning mixture of green and black enamel, and silver engine block coverings that invites you to just stare inside the cowling.

Undercarriage
Certainly, an A-1 job on the undercarriage, with no rust (surface or otherwise) and nice wood that the interior of the car sits on. 4-wheel mechanical drum brakes, and 4-wheel leaf spring suspension can be seen underneath.

Drive-Agility
Drives like a dream, with a smooth ride, quick starting, and has the capabilities to keep up with modern day traffic. Seats are like soft pillows, and the overall interior is much like it is furnished. Whether you are personally driving or being chauffeured, imagine the look when you pull up to the country club in this wonderful Packard. And don't forget to "ask the man who owns one".
