I bought this 1984 Avanti II from my Grandfather earlier this year. He has owned it since the 1990s and had it repainted sometime in the late 1990s over the original black and it was enough of a low-end job that it did not last and has extensive oxidation and loss to the clear coat. So while this car runs it does need work and will need a full strip, lass work, nd repaint when the mechanicals are fixed. I wanted to take this on but don't have the funds to do so.
It was in storage and not driven much over the last 4-5 years after we moved him into an assisted living home and was garaged for most of that time.
There are extensive paint issues as I said, ut it has not been in any accidents to my knowledge. With my limited knowledge of fiberglass, think it is in generally good shape but I will call out everything I can for you to judge for yourself. The "hog troughs" seem fine but I wasn't able to photograph them. Let me know what you want to see and I can get more images up.
Starting on the drivers side rear and going clockwise-
Driver's side:-Paint worn through to fiberglass under gas tank door-Extensive oxidation and clear coat damage as shown-Chips to edge of driver's side door-Cracks in fiberglass under the door (shown)-Door needs adjustment-Driver's power window not operating (I believe the motor needs replace or rebuilt)-Front Drivers Fender reflector missing
Front:-Bumper has lots of paint cracks but should be restorable as is when repainted-Separation in fibreglass where turn indicators were on the original 63-64 Avanti but are glassed over in a 1984-Hood oxidized and needs adjusted as it hits the body in the front at the hinge (where there is fiberglass damage from this fact)-Windshield has a crack
Passenger side:-Deep scratch down to fiberglass towards front edge of passenger door extending to fender-Paint missing to fiberglass above hood-Paint missing to fiberglass on rear fender edge and above trunk
Rear End:-Bumper has lots of paint cracks with signs of an impact with a pole but should be restorable as is when repainted-Trunk is electric and while it works, t gets stuck on occasion-Cracks to paint in bumper-Extensive oxidation and clear coat damage as shown
Roof:-Heavy oxidation and clear coat loss-Sunroof opens but with difficulty due to leather cover on inside warping and causing friction
Interior:-Extensive cracking to lacquer on wood dash elements-Leather in good shape, rivers seat has been completely redone in matching leather-Passenger seat side bolsters redone where they was worn-Plastic lens on Automatic shifter is cracked-Some warping to leather components like change pocket in center and above radio-Original Blaupunkt AM/FMcassette& Speakers (not working but prob just needs a fuse)-Carpet in decent shape
Chromed Steel Wire Wheels:-All 4 with rust-Tires in fine shape but 20 years old and will need replaced
Mechanical:-A/C needs recharged but fan blows and should work-Some seals needed, otentially rear end seal (?)-Engine needs general tune up-Transmission shifts smoothly-Brakes seem fine
The mechanics are what I know the least about. Like I said above, his runs and gets down the highway (taken it up to 80 a couple of times).
I'm looking to just get this to someone who can get it to up where it deserves to be. Please send questions and offers!
*An interested party came on 10/9 and confirmed that the undercarriage and hog troughs are in good shape with no rust or problems. I have some pictures if requested.
