1937 Other Makes CHRYSLER AIRFLOW

Here is something unique which you do not see everyday. This is a final year, 1937 Chrysler Airflow 8 model. For those of you who know what the Airflow is, We do not really need to discuss how famous this car is regarding automobile history. Airflows were built and sold between 1934 and 1936 through Chrysler and DeSoto dealerships and one more final year, 1937 as a Chrysler only model. The Desoto Airflows are smaller cars with a 6 cyl engine. The Chryslers were much larger and came with an 8cyl engine. The Airflows were the first true streamlined automobiles built. This is the car that changed it all. Other cars before the Airflow were pretty much boxes on wheels. Airflow sales were poor, not many people could accept the wild styling at the time. Safety was it's main selling point as the Airflow was basically built as a steel cage with very little wood except in the floors. Most cars still had alot of wood in their bodies. Front windshields crank open and door side windows can either open fully with the vent windows or flip open the vent windows and just the door glass will open. Pretty neat.
This car has been in my family for many years. I just pulled the car out of our barn where it has been for 22 years. I last drove it around 1996-97. I used to drive it everywhere, to shows, on car tours, ect. This was one of the most reliable old cars I had. I installed brighter sealed beam headlights behind the original glass covered lights and installed a modern electric fuel pump. Every single item worked on this car including the clock. The car has the factory overdrive transmission. The car would cruise all day at 70mph at low rpm. Since the car has been in storage for over 20 years, time got to it and it's going to need restoration. The body is very solid. The very bottom of 3 doors have some rust out starting. The fenders and original fender skirts are solid. The original running boards are solid with the original rubber trim. The trunk floor needs to be replaced. Rocker panels are fair. The wood in the floors also needs to be replaced. The original interior was still quite nice 20 years ago, however, during storage in the barn, somehow, mice and squirrels got into the car and literally ate the interior. I mean those little buggers ate just about everything. The seat frames are still ok and some material is left for patterns. I have not tried to start the car yet, however, it was in excellent and I do mean excellent running and driving condition when I personally drove it into the barn 22 years ago. I would expect this car to come back to life without much hassle. All the tires hold air, they still had plenty of air when I took it out of the barn. Oil is clean and full. Antifreeze was completely drained and so was the gas in the tank. As much as we enjoyed this car over the years, there is no point in just letting it sit. Time for a loving new owner to bring her back. The car was in New York it's entire life until we brought it to New Jersey. At that time, New York State did not issue titles. Your registration was in fact your title. The car never had a title. Again, this was common in many states. The old New York registration was in the glovebox but you guessed it, the mice ate it. Kind of like the old saying in school, my dog ate my homework. I will include an Official Notarized Bill of Sale if need be, showing it's my car. Whatever you would like to feel comfortable. That about covers everything. If you have any questions or, if you would like to come see the car for yourself before you bid, you are welcome to do this. My feedback has always been 100% Positive since I signed up with Ebay well over 15 years ago which says alot. I tell it like it is.
Please note.... Serious ready to buy bidders only please. It takes time and cost money to run an auction. If you bid and win, you bought the car period. Everything you need to know is in the listing so read it carefully please. The reserve is more than reasonable for a car like this. Although the car needs to be restored, it's rare as hen's teeth, it's very special and your neighbor is not likely to have one in his garage or anyone else in your area. I loaded as many photos as Ebay would let me, however, I have many more photos showing every part of the car including complete underbody photos. If anyone would like to see more photos, just let me know. Thank you for your interest.

I may try and locate a good 6 volt battery and connect it to see if we have power. If we have power, I will check for spark. If we have spark, I may try and start her up. The oil is clean and full plus I put a little Marvel Mystery Oil down each cylinder once in a while during storage to make sure the engine stays free. If I get her running again, "I will not" raise the price.
