1979 McBurnie Ferrari Daytona

Similar to the one on the TV show Miami Vice

One of the most beautiful cars that Mr. Ferrari ever designed was the Ferrari Daytona. From the day that they first came out every car magazine of the day was in awe of their spectacular design.

Back in the late 1970s there was a TV show called “Miami Vice” starring Don Johnson. They wanted the flashiest car that they could have for the star of the show and that was a Ferrari Daytona. At the time the production TV budget would not allow the purchase of a Ferrari Dayton from Mr. Ferrari. So they went to a gentleman named Mr. McBurnie and had him reproduce the Daytona body, style and look and installed it onto a Corvette chassis. It was such a popular conversion that he ended up making another small run of these McBurnie Ferrari Daytonas before Mr. Ferrari got after him.Legend goes that it was agreed that the limited number that had been produced would be allowed if he discontinued making any more, which apparently he did.

The car that you see in this eBay ad is titled as a 1979 Ferrari although it is a McBurnie Ferrari on a Corvette chassis.Another way of looking at it is that you get all the beauty of a Enzo Ferrari Daytona but save roughly a few Million Dollars in today’s cost for the real collectible Ferrari Daytona with a full Ferrari chassis and motor.

Everybody has to admit that the close recreation of the fiberglass Ferrari body on the Corvette chassis is close to a dead ringer for the real thing. The visual impact between the real Ferrari Daytona and the McBurnie Ferrari Daytona is almost the same.

The car that you see in this ad is in Ferrari Red and has a new interior and new top material.Check out the impressive looking dashboard.Tires are excellent.Runs as it should and has a very low reserve.Probably half of what it might be in Arizona in January.Of course in true Ferrari tradition, it is a manual 4-speed transmission (most were automatics) and has the AM/FM radio and is truly a gorgeous piece of artwork.

If you are the type of person that likes everybody to know that “YOU HAVE ARRIVED”, this might be just the car that you are looking for!

Check out the fabulous Ferrari badging and the duplication of the four exhaust pipes very similar to the pipes of the Ferrari Daytona by Mr. Ferrari.
