1959 Singer GazelleConvertible
.
I bought the Singer some time ago from a lady who had it parked in a shed behind her house. She and her husband bought the car in 1961 and have had it ever since. In 1977 they stopped driving it and put it into a shed built just for the Singer, her husband had plans to restore it at some point in the future. He never found the time and passed away. She kept it for several more years finally selling it to me last year. I bought it because it was so unique, knowing I had many projects ahead of it and might never have time to restore it. Now I am downsizing so it is time to pass it on to someone new to enjoy.
Mechanical:I have made no attempt to start the car but the engine will move by hand. It has been sitting since the mid 1970's so it will need all the typical work for a car that has been of the road for that long.
Interior:The interior is complete but needs a good cleaning at the least or to be redone depending on your budget. The Singer was a pricey car in its day and as such has real wood trim on the door and dash, wool carpeting and other upgrades typical of betterBritishcars.
Body:The floors are very good as is the trunk floor. There are rust spots on the lower front fenders behind the wheel opening in the rocker panels and rear wheel openings. In my opinion it is repairable and the panels will not have to be replaced. The paint is poor and a lowqualitycolour change. The original colourwas a fire engine red with a red convertible top. The door jams, trunk and under the hood are still the original red paint (in good condition) so if the new owner wanted to take it back to red it would be an easy task. The chrome needs to be redone, but all the trim and emblems are there so you won't spend a bunch of time hunting it down. The glass is all good and moves up and down. This car has a three position convertible top.. fully raised...Coupe de Ville position (front section of the roof is rolled back to just behind the driver leaving the rear section enclosed)... and fully folded down. The top moves up and down but is stiff from sitting. The original red ever flex roof needs to be redone as does the plastic rear window. This car was heavily undercoated and the frame and floors and trunk look to be very good from the underside.
Overall:If you looking for a fun car that won't cost more than your house to restore then this may be the car for you. Parts arereadilyavailableand if your interested, it is easy to upgrade things like disc brakes using bolt on parts from an MG. This Singer is complete but needs a lot of work, I just watched a nice one sell on ebay for around 10,000. so this may be your chance to get one at a fraction of thatprice. This car has the original manual and books.
Location and Shipping:The car is located in British Columbia Canada about five hours from the Washington border. If a US buyer buys this car I will help with arranging shipping and with the paperwork as I am very familiar with the process (there is a duty of 2.5% of the purchase price when importing it). If you are looking for a quote on shipping this takes some time and I will only do this for the winning bidder, however, I can ship the the car to Blaine Washington for 500.00 and you can arrange the rest or pick it up there. The title is clear
Payment:I make no exceptions on payment, it is due in full within 5 days of the end of the auction by paying cash in person or by bank wire transfer or e-transfer. No money orders or any other methods will be accepted. I find this is the safest way for both the buyer and me as there is a complete bank record of the transaction.
If you have any questions please send me an email or call 250-515-1110 I am often out of the cellular service area but if you leave a message I will call you back as soon as I can.
Scammers: I have heard it all before don't waste my time.
Good luck and thanks for looking
