Description:

1980 Oldsmobile 442

This "442" is in outstanding condition. It is very, ery rare, nly 540 produced in 1980 and much fewer with T-Tops. It was ordered with almost every option available:
  • 4 bbl
  • High performance 5.7 HO (350 cu. in.) V-8
  • Sport console and bucket seats
  • Rallye suspension
  • Raised white letter performance tires
  • Custom steering wheel
  • Digital clock
  • Tilt Column
  • Cruise Control
  • Air conditioning
  • Sport mirrors

The original owner (in Indiana) had the car rust-proofed by the "Ziebart" process when new (see the unique tiny red plugs in the door jambs). Ziebart was probably the only rust-proof system during that era that truly worked, n my opinion. The body and paint are magnificent. Rust-free including the underside (see pics). The black vinyl interior is perfect (only small cracks in drivers' seat). Head liner and dash perfect.

Mechanically it is like a new car. Low miles (109,000--engine totally re-built at 80K). No smoke, o leaks, o overheating, o noises except the incredible exhaust sound. The transmission shifts crisp and positive as it should. The car is tight and rides like new. Only 3 owners, he 1st was in Indiana, he 2nd in Texas, ccounting for the rust-free condition. It has been in the east for only the past 4 years. T-Tops are original, o not leak, nd include original storage bags in the trunk. Most top, oor and trunk seals have been replaced. This car is totally original except for 1very high quality re-spray 6 years ago and addition of a new "true" dual exhaust system. (Original was a single, -outlet muffler.) The new dual exhaust gives the "442" the most wonderful sound. Black is a difficult color to photograph, r to see defects. I assure you that the body is laser straight and all shut lines are perfect. The paint is like glass, o excuses--10 out of 10!

Prices of original "442's" are out of reach. Only these 80's remain affordable--but for how long? Smart collectors are buying perfect examples like this one while they are still affordable.

With all the positive factors I want to mention the few negatives. Below the "442" emblem on the trunk is a tiny rust bubble and, s on all 80's Cutlasses both bumpers have small imperfections in the chrome plating. (Can hardly be seen in the pictures.)

If you live nearby, ome see and drive my beautiful 442; if you would like, end an appraiser. If you choose to buy it on ebay, eel confident you will be impressed by the the condition of the 442. It has won trophies at almost every cruise/show I have taken it to.
