1972 Oldsmobile 442

#s matching 442 with broadcast sheet. Vin # match 455 motor and turbo 400 auto. Factory code 75 Matador red. Lived in Atlanta most of it's life, virtually rust free. Restored to beautiful condition.
EXTERIOR: Gorgeous repaint in it's original Matador red color, set off with the optional white stripes. The body is in excellent shape. This car was sold new at Callaway Motors in Decatur GA and lived there most of it's life. The body has it's original metal. Original 1/4 panels, bottom of the doors still have clean seems, inside the door jambs you can still see the factory spot welds, bottom of the fenders are clean. All the body panels line up nice and square. A little known fact is the 442 emblems were not spaced equally from the factory. The 4s were tight and there was a space between the 4 and 2. The reason I mention this is because I rarely see them correct. If someone were to replace a panel or make a Cutlass into a 442 they would logically space the 442 equally which is wrong. This car has the 442 emblems as it left the factory! Painted about 10 years ago and still shines beautifully. It was recently clay barred and ceramic coated. The bumpers are rechromed, in back it has the notched bumper for the trumpet exhaust tips. Stainless is great, trim around windshield is polished. Grills, hood louvers, headlight bezels are in great shape. Has new lenses in back. Windshield, window seals and weatherstrips look new. The color matched Rally wheels have been restored, trim is bright. The white convertible top that still looks new and it has new weather stripping on the convertible frame. Top boot is new.
INTERIOR: It's in excellent shape inside, unabused and well cared for. The upholstery, door panels, carpeting, dash pad are all very, very good condition. Has reproduction floor mats and a sport steering wheel. The dash area is very nice- nothing cracked or cut, the vents, bezels, wood grain is excellent. The ashtray door is not broke, ashtray is clean, original lighter matches the other knobs. Nice glovebox, has power trunk release (didn't work when i tried it). Has the glovebox pouch with original manuals, warranty book filled out with original dealers info and buyers info and original broadcast sheet found in the car. There is a set of gauges mounted neatly under the dash to moniter the engine's vitals.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Spotless metal with a clean coat of spatter paint. It has optional rubber Oldsmobile mat. The jack is clean, has spare with tire cover and correct lug wrench. The jamb has clean seams, new rubber and is painted very nicely. Bottom side of the trunk lid is painted nice, has the jacking decals.
MOTOR COMPARTMENT: I would call it show quality. I just opened the hood and said "wow" in my head. It is very clean, orderly and detailed just as it left the factory. All the black metal is clean and smooth. The engine has a real nice, clean coat of the correct blue paint. All the wiring is neatly run, has the proper hoses and clamps. The upper hose is attached to the fan shroud like it's supposed to be (rarely see that). Air conditioning system has been serviced and upgraded to R134 freon. Bottom of the hood is painted gloss red and it has the installation. Master cylinder and brake booster is detailed, alternator looks new. The 455 motor only has been completely rebuilt only 3,800 miles ago. New pistons, cam, rebuilt heads etc.
UNDERSIDE: Super clean metal, dry as a chalkboard. All the factory drain holes, spotwelds and seams are clean. Everything looks proper. Has the Rallye suspension.
WHAT 442 MEANS IN 1972: Only 1,179 convertibles were made. The 442 option was a handling and appearance package, it had nothing to do with the motor. You could get a 350 with a 2 barrel carb and single exhaust! This 442 was ordered with the 455, dual exhaust and a 4 barrel. This is designated by the U in the vin #. This motor also required the heavy duty Turbo 400 trans. Both the motor and trans are vin # matched to this car. This 442 has it's original Rallye suspension which is required to be a 442. This includes sway bars and boxed control arms. The appearance portion included different grills, 442 emblems and hood louvers. This is an excellent example of a very rare and desirable muscle car convertible!
