1968 Oldsmobile 442 --

Born out of the competition between Oldsmobile and Pontiac, the 4-4-2 option package was hastily introduced on the F-85 and Cutlass models in response to the success of the GTO in '64. In 1968, the 442 became a model in its own right. So, this is the first year of a legendary car, with a numbers-matching engine that is the correct bronze-copper color, topped with the correct fire-red air cleaner. Check it out. Presented in a nice... shade of Blue, this car looks sharp. There is good panel fit across the body so the reflections in the paint carry through very cleanly. The light that catches the body lines bend smoothly over the bulging fenders with the wheel wells dressed out in chrome. A chrome strip starts at the front, carries along the top of the fender toward the back, defines the bottom edge of the black vinyl roof and ends where the steeply raked rear window blends into the trunk giving it a fastback look. Up front a V-shaped grill proudly announces that this is a 442. It is flanked by quad headlights, and underlined by a big, bright chrome bumper. Bold white triple stripes on the fenders captures another couple 442 badges. At the rear of the car, a unique to '68 bumper has cutouts for special exhaust tips. It's a bunch of chrome back there and boy does it look good! Open the door and you will find a neat and clean interior that is in good condition with minimal wear. The door panel itself looks fantastic. The upper is done in black patterned fabric that is pleated with a delicate chrome stripe through the center. The armrest and door handle have an aluminum panel where your hand would rub using it, is dressed in chrome piping, and sets on top of a bold chrome strip that separates it from the bottom panel. A wood grained, deep dish, three spoke steering wheel sits in front of a stock instrument cluster with a dash pad that looks to be new. The second 4 in 4-4-2 is for the 4-speed trans whose shifter rises from the floor and is just begging to be stirred around. The original AM radio with its unique control knobs is still mounted in the center and fresh carpeting ties everything together nicely. Pop the hood and get ready for a treat. Nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay is the original, numbers matching, 400 cubic inch V8 engine. No frills except for those very special numbers on the block. There is a set of long tube headers which head back through the 2 in the name which is the Dual exhaust system, through Flowmaster mufflers to those special exhaust tips and give the engine a sweet-sounding rumble. The engine really catches your eye painted in the correct Bronze-Copper color with the Red air cleaner assembly sitting on top of the first 4 of the cars name, which is the 4-barrel carb. Signs of good regular maintenance are evident in recent tune up items and fresh belts and hoses. Power flows back through the 4-speed trans to the axle mounted on coil springs. The whole car sits on 225/70R14 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on factory steel wheels with trim rings. First 442 as its own model. Nicely restyled for '68 and destined to become a legend. You could own this legend. Come on down and check it out. You will be glad you did.
