1923 Oldsmobile Model 47 Sport Light Phaeton

We just acquired this beautiful 1923 Oldsmobile from an estate of the long-termprevious owner. The car was well along in a very thoroughrestoration when the gentleman passed away leaving the car partially disassembled but with most of the serious works completed. Most often we avoid the purchase of a "Basketcase" type project but this car was so attractive that we took a chance and bought it with the multiple boxes of uninstalled parts. Much to our surprise, the car was 100% complete and actually the finished assembly and first-time mechanical operation was done quite easy resulting in a stunning four place Touring car that is a thrill to drive and enjoy. The prior owner bought the car over 40 years ago, complete but not running. The body was in outstanding condition with no rust or damage. He determined back in the late 1970's that the originalmotor wasnot repairable and the decision was made to re-power the car with a similar weight but a more serviceable engine and transmission that would make the car much more reliable and safe to drive. He researched and found a Volvo 144. 4 cylindermotor and a 3-speed manual transmission would fit well and accomplishhis goal. The Volvo motor was rebuilt to stock specs and ultimately it powers the car very well, surely an improvement in performance and reliability over the original. At that time the car wasalso converted to 12 volts with an alternator, again a vast improvement. The car starts easily hot or cold, runs very smooth, sounds great and powers the car well. Transmission shifts very well. We have had the car up to 45-50mph with little effort. The paint works on the car is very nice and holding up very well being it was done about 20 years ago. All of the chrome as show quality replated and still wrapped in newspaper when we bought the car. Interior has been totally reupholsteredalso to a good level of quality and a complete new folding top was installed on restored top bows. The original wood steering wheel was sent out for restoration and is beautiful. The wood door caps and dash panel were also expertly restored. Overall the interior is superb. We clearly recognize that the collector value of this rare nearly 100-year-old Oldsmobile Phaeton is impacted by the powertrain swap. This car was built to be enjoyed as a hobby car and we are pricing this car to sell at a fraction of its value if it was totally original. Look at our pictures closely and call on us with any and all questions you might have. Take note that we are selling thiscar at no reserve and it will pass to the highest bidder to be enjoyed as was intended.
