BODYWORK/TRIM

The 1969 Hurst/Olds hit the streets and the strips 40 plus years ago. Their bold hood scoops and rear spoiler along with the gold stripes made them a “head turner” and everyone noticed them. The same is true today. They are the most recognizable H/O on the road. The H/O is a limited production car built by Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance in 10 select years from 1968 to 1988. In 1969, 906 of these special cars were built on the production line. All H/O production cars were hardtops. There were also 3 convertibles converted by Hurst Performance for promotional use at race tracks. The first production car was shipped in March and the last in July.

The 1969 had 3 emblems located on the side of each front fender and on the right side of the trunk lid. These cars were also outfitted with special mirrors similar in style to English Racing mirrors, but slightly larger. They are an unusual design with a chrome ring that is actually how they are adjusted. The rest of the exclusive items on the exterior of the 1969 Hurst Olds included a bold hood scoop and a real spoiler.

ENGINE

The engine is a 455cid four-barrel, casting # 396021F (as called for by the engineers). Engineering orders called for H/O’s to have “D” cast cylinder heads, with a number over the stamped vin # 39M356943. The carburetor is a restored Quadra jet 4-barrel (7029251) a special air cleaner, and shoves air into a high performance intake used only on the 1969 Hurst Olds (casting 405233). At the back of that intake, a traditional point’s distributor, (1111989) feeds fire through proven Packard TV R Suppression cables, which snake around correct "D" heads, and stamped and chromed valve covers. Exhaust manifolds were LH (W 402295) RH ( Z 402294). Mechanically, the stout mill is all day reliable, spinning 500 lb./ft. of torque from one of the largest and most powerful valve trains ever created. Aesthetically, original familiar plastic fenders and Red block skin look fantastic against the car's glossy body.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

The bottom of this H/O is completely solid, showing no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket 455 fronts an original Turbo 400, which is followed by a Hurst Shifter hangs a correct 3925661 casting number. That proven transmission sends power to a 3:42 ratio 12-bolt rear end, which employs moderate, highway-friendly gears. That smooth driveline hangs in a tagged FE2 heavy-duty suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, was thoroughly cleaned and fully rebuilt during the detailed restoration. Solid stops are provided by correct front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns come courtesy of a power steering rack. At the center of the car, a large-diameter exhaust system funnels spent gases through a original exhaust system. And everything rolls on attractive Super Stock IIs, which spin G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas GT around chromed and rocket-branded center caps (100% original stock).

INTERIOR

The interior of the Hurst/Olds is fitted with a Dual – Gate shifter with a small Hurst console. This has a Rocket Rally-Pac(U21-tach/clock and gauges) and a sport steering wheel with woodgrain rim and matching horn button (this is a rare option). And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a fifth Super Stock II, 15”x7” and stickered Goodyear Polyglas GT tire between a fresh mat, correct tools and correct decklid decals.
