In the summer of 1971, John Anderson a US Army Sgt. from San Diego, California took delivery of his special order 1971 W30 Convertible. Sgt. Anderson ordered a Viking Blue 1971 W30 4 speed convertible, with white interior, and a white top. John had ordered the car back in the fall of 1970 and took delivery in late 1971 when he returned from Siagon.
Anderson drove the car for a few years, taking great pride in what he worked for 4 years to buy.
In 1974, now with a wife and child on the way, and the Vietnam conflict coming to a end, John re enlisted in the Army. He put a cover on his beloved W30, put it on jack stands, and went back to Vietnam. This is the last time he would see his W30. Sgt. John Anderson was one of the last casualties of the Vietnam Conflict in 1975. As a fellow ebayer pointed out Sgt. Anderson was a casualty of a training accident.
Andersons wife Virginia couldn't bring herself to sell her husbands beloved W30.
The car sat, in the the garage with a cover on it until 2000 when John Anderson Jr. had his fathers W30 shipped to Missouri where he had started his family. The car had not been driven since 1975, and only been started periodically until 1993 when John Jr. went away to school. Jr. Had the motor pulled on his dad's 13000 mile W30 that was now running but leaking oil from dried up gaskets. The motor was resealed, new valve seals installed and the brakes overhauled.
John drove the car every chance he could for the next 10 years. Jr. loved hearing the sound of that M22 whining pulling through the gears.
In 2010, Dr. John Anderson, a cardiologist from St Louis, MO passed away suddenly.
In 2015, Dr. Andersons wife again pulled out the W30 from storage still wearing its' original paint to be put back into service. Not much was replaced in nearly 45 years. The original inner fender wells were replaced with a NOS set. (Still have originals) one fender was replaced with a NOS fender after a disagreement with a garbage can. The car has absolutely no rust repair aside from a small spot on the rear quarter panel where a tire blew out and exposed some paint. I'd venture to say there is about a tablespoon of filler on the car. A lot of the paint is original, and by no means perfect. It is laquer, and rubs nicely with some thin spots in places. I believ the car was restriped when the fender was replaced. John Jr. also had a new top installed in 2008.
You've got the holy grail here folks. Possibly the only "real" highly documented W30 4 speed convertible with its' complete numbers matching drivetrain. From the OAI air cleaner to the 256 carb to the H heads and 036 distributor. The open face alternator, while correct is not original to the car, nor is the radiator. 4 original T3 headlights.

The brakes were once again recently overhauled and the motor resealed, gone away with the nylon timing gear. The car currently has 47000 documented miles.
A car of this pedigree and this original will command in the upper range of what these cars are worth.
This car is what it is and sells itself. This car has never before been for sale. If you think you are going to get it for a song you are mistaken.
This car runs and drives great, get looks everywhere and is a true survivor.
The interior is completely original and shows well. The car is super dry and unmolested.
Sgt Anderson ordered the best car in the best colors, in a 4 speed. He ordered a 1 of 32 car. It is unknown how many Viking blue 4 speed W30 convertibles were made. The amount of fakes out there may make this the only real one left.
