1950 Mercury Coupe Lead Sled

Both 1949-1951 Ford and Mercury products have long been excellent fodder for street rods. These lead sleds still stand today as not only a nod to a time when these were more sought after than a muscle car, but also as one of the most timeless designs ever produced by a manufacturer. This Mercury has been done up right with lots of useful and tasteful modifications, and has been built in true street rod fashion. Under the hood sits the... iconic Chevrolet 350 V8 that according to the suffix code is a L82 4-bolt main. This may not appeal to purists, but that's kind of not the point of this car. It has been built just as if it was customized "back in the day." The top has been chopped just enough to give it that sleek, aerodynamic look that rodded Mercs are known for. The paint is in great shape especially when you consider this car was built as you see it today approximately 16 years ago. The flames you see are painted on as they should be, not stickers. This car has clean lines and is really the definition of an old school street rod. You can easily swap between the '90s street rod look and '50s lead sled look by changing from the nice Cragar wheels to the steel wheels with wide white wall tires that are included with the sale. Couple those white walls with the fiberglass fender skirts (also included) and you'll have yourself a proper sled! The lights have been frenched, again in true '50s style. Additionally, the power antenna has been recessed into the quarterpanel and a modern-style gas filler door has been seamlessly integrated into the other. The look is completed by a louvered hood and shaved door handles. There are electric poppers for the doors and there is a hidden mechanical popper for the trunk. Everywhere you look you can clearly tell someone put some serious time into this ride! Step inside and the theme continues; everything about this car has been done to mimic the style of 1950s lead sleds while adding beneficial modern improvements. Every modification this car has could be considered tasteful. The gauge cluster is a full set of vintage-looking Autometer gauges and the radio is a Kenwood unit that plays your cruising tunes through a set of Pioneer speakers. The classic '50s-style Grant steering wheel really looks nice! The steering column is a GM unit out of a Pontiac equipped with a locking collar that acts as a hidden kill-switch. A quick twist of this column disables the car! It's simple, sneaky, and most would never find it. The seats are custom vinyl power seats that are multi-directionally adjustable. This Mercury has been retrofitted with more modern heat and A/C controls and vents. Not only does this system blow strong, the heat is hot and the A/C is cold. The red and white interior color combination perfectly complements the exterior. Underneath, the addition of a new front subframe adds the benefits of power steering and power disc brakes, as well as front coil springs and shocks. Overall, it is very apparent that this is a well put together rod that is the product of a carefully planned and executed build process. This would be a great cruiser around town or even on longer trips; the owner has driven it to Tennessee before! If you're hurting for a lead sled chariot, stop by and check this '50 Merc out.
