1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible. This is a fairly rare car with the factory 390 Engine. These S Code cars are hard to come by, and this one is #'s matching. The car is actually pretty nicely optioned. It has air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power disc brakes.
The original engine and trans were rebuilt at around 90k miles (35k miles ago) by the previous owner. The car really does run well and strong. She is very easy starting and has loads of power. No unusual noises, odors, or smoke from the engine. The car does have a slight exhaust leak on the passenger side exhaust manifold, but it's so minor that I never bothered replacing the manifold gasket. The trans shifts great, kicks down well, driveline is vibration free on the highway. Brakes are excellent and she really stops well with the factory power disc brakes. The tires are newer white letter tires.
Everything works pretty well in the car, the sequential tail lights, hideaway headlights, lights, gauges, windows roll up fast, power top works well. The A/C does work, very well...but requires a "yearly charge up"...very small leak somewhere...but Iwasn't going to chase it down.
The interior is in really nice shape, all thinks considered. I think the front upholstery was replaced at some point, because it looks so darn good...but then again there is a restitched portion on one of the seats...so they may be original?
A real bonus here is the convertible top, tack strips, convertible top weather stripping is all brand new ($2,200)...and it's black. I had it installed at one of the best shops in IL.
The undercarriage is of course unrestored but in very reasonable andserviceable condition. The rockers are excellent, rear rails, torque boxes, floor pans are all unmolested and rot free. Trunk floor looks darn good as well.
The paint on the car is nice "driver" quality...by no means perfect, but shows well! It was painted some 20 years ago. The chrome and bright work are all in good original shape.
Overall, a fun, hop in and go #'s matching S Code 390 car. This is a car you will never lose money on. I think with this option list and being a #'s matching 390 car...where is the downside?
This car has been a great everyday driver in fair weather for me, but I'm moving on to other hobbies.
My cell # is 630-273-7595. I have a Central Dispatch account and can assist with shipping.
The car is for sale on other sites as well and auction will be ended in the event of a sale outside of ebay.
