HISTORIC BACKGROUND: The 1974 Mercury Cougar was a very carefully contemplated and planned automobile. In the early 1970s, both the personal luxury and the intermediate-sized car markets were growing.Mercury leveraged these trends by making dramatic changes in the 1974 Cougar, taking it from unit-body construction to the same frame and separate body construction principle that Lincoln now embraced for quietness and ride quality.

The 1974 Cougar XR7 was definitely brought considerably upscale. The dash sported full instrumentation – more akin to European sports cars than its American competition. The seating was plush and very comfortable. The positioning of the car was now much more of a “baby Mark IV” than a “big brother” to the Mustang.

#4A93S586899 VIN DECODING: 4 (Model Year) A (Atlanta Assembly Plant) 93 (Mercury Cougar) S (400 cid 2-BBL V8) 586899 (Production Serial Number).

ATLANTA OWNERSHIP HISTORY… purchased new at Leader Lincoln-Mercury in Atlanta, GA.Current owner is the second owner.A well-maintained original car rather than a restored car.The only significant cosmetic investments have been a quality repaint in the original Slate Blue Metallic (clearcoat) and a new vinyl roof.It is now collector-owned, and has been treasured for its fine overall condition.

OPERATIONAL REPORT… One of the best-driving cars you will ever find from this era – likely because they shared some suspension/chassis engineering with the Mark IV.Smooth and solid…though the new owner may want to tighten the hubcap center-caps as they rattle a bit.The horn, wipers, power windows, radio, 8-track were all tested and worked. The auto-cancel feature of the turn-signals is out on the right side, and front left directional does not blink (likely just needs a new bulb). The power seat is operational – but slow, and sometimes trips the circuit breaker (which resets after a few moments).Air-Conditioner will need a re-charge and/or maintenance. The 1974 Federal-mandated seat-belt warning buzzer is still connected and generally behaves…but sometimes may buzz, depending upon the front passsenger’s position/weight! No warning lights were noted as ignition key was turned – so they are assumed to be non-functioning. As a matter of personal preference, a 1975 front bumper has been installed – distinguished by the functional vents below the front grille and arguably more attractive.

LOCATION:Winder, GA...whichis approximately 50 miles from Atlanta

EXCELLENT INVESTMENT –The better cars from the 1970s are just beginning to be re-discovered, especially because the prime classics of the 1950s and 1960s have become so expensive.

Over 3,000 TRANSACTIONS WITH HAPPY PEOPLE!As of the date of this listing, we've had over 3,000 transactions (both BuyingandSelling) on eBay without a single complaint. One of the keys to our success is to showlargerandmoreimages than almost any other eBay listing...so you canclearlysee what you are getting. We also give a very detailed description of the car...not just a couple sentences like many listings.
ODOMETER/SPEEDO/WHEELS NOTE...the odometer recently stopped at 79,999.However, due to the design limitations of odometers of this era, accurate mileage since new cannot be known with certainty, even when they are operational. The speedometer however, does continue to work - though it may be a bit "off" due to the replacement of factory 14" wheels with 15" for improved ride/handling.

ABOUT ME…I am an avid Classic Car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as a collector and for friends and clients. This classic belongs to a friend and fellow classic car enthusiast.
Please Note: as of this date, we have had over 3,000 eBay transactions with 100% Positive Feedback...this includes the sale of many Classic Cars to Buyers all over the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan and throughout the United States.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENT & CONDITION OF SALE REMARKS:Bill of Sale, and Vehicle Registration documents will be provided to the Buyer.

NOTE: Georgia does not require titles for pre-1985 cars. Therefore, the current owner was able to register the car as a “non-title” vehicle, and keep the original Title issued for the car (though the original title now has no legal value, it is considered by many collectors to be valuable provenance.)

Because all states must observe the DMV rules for other states, the car can be readily registered, licensed, and insured in any state. Whether a title is issued to the new owner depends entirely upon DMV title guidelines for their home state.

This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied due to age. Even the very best and most valuable classics will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue - as the new owner and caretaker of this classic - to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that you are able to enjoy the car without the need for an immediate repair - but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a classic car is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this car (or any classic car) should not be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible. Therefore -beforethe auction's end - bidders are welcome to examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final.

Because this car is only lightly driven locally - and is untested for long trips - we recommend that it be transported to its new locale.

Finally, we remind you to be sure to review ALL the images and ALL the captions for this classic because - in addition to this description - they relate important information too!
