1964 Mercury Marauder

PLEASE NOTE THAT 90% OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS AUCTION WILL BENEFIT THE D.A.V. FOUNDATION. This Mercury was sold new at Teidgen Motors in Sterling, Colorado. I purchased it in 1990 from the original owner's family, who had begun to freshen up the car after It had been off the road for years. It had just been in an upholstery shop, where the seats had been nicely reupholstered in correct original material and new NOS carpet installed. It ran strong when I drove it home, and all the accessories, headlights and tail lamps worked. But in the 27+ years since then it has sat idle in the corner of my shop. Other than draining the fuel from the gas tank, cranking the engine occasionally, and changing the oil, I have made no efforts at mechanical service to this car. The engine turns by hand, but the brakes are soft, it needs a battery, and the tires hold air but need to be replaced. Although I would expect that it would come to life fairly easily, I would not want to misrepresent it's mechanical condition, since I have never really worked on it. Apart from mechanical considerations, there are lots of detail items that need to be completed, such as plugging in some of the the dash lights to the instrument panel, replacing the rear shelf speaker, and installing a new trunk lock cylinder. (It opens remotely via a wire cable), The interior is very nice and original. The seat upholstery, headliner and door panels are excellent. The only things that detract from the interior are the missing rear speaker and sun visors that are in need of attention. The original window sticker shows that this Mercury came with a padded dash, but that is long gone, The upholstery shop apparently removed the instrument cluster to get it out, and never put everything back in their sockets. The body is very solid and unmolested. Other than the present amateur "20 footer" repaint some time ago, it has never had any collision or rust repair. The only rust is in the rear wheel opening doglegs and trunk wheel houses. The prior owner told me he wanted to grind all of the bubbling rust areas out to ensure that it did not rust any further until the car was worked on. But the pictures accurately represent exactly where the rust is: the floor pan, trunk area and frame are solid. I consider the front and rear bumpers to be driver-presentable. There are a few small dings about the body and a scrape on the right rocker panel. The lower trim is very good; the belt line trim has a few dings and scrapes, and the right front fender trim is not attached permanently. The Marauder and checkered flag emblems are all present, although not in all of the photos. The tail panel trim is straight but needs to be detailed with black paint. The glass is all good, the doors shut nicely with a solid feel, and the windows roll up and down effortlessly. I have added some spare Mercury parts, including a set of seat belts and more NOS upholstery fabric. Hopefully, the photos will tell the story. This car was washed when it emerged from it's 27 year slumber, but I did not attempt to detail it or mask any flaws. There is no doubt that this Mercury will need some mechanical attention. But it is a very worthy example of a unique and attractive one-year only Mercury body style. Very few of these four-door fastback hardtops were made, and most of them were crushed long ago. This car deserves to be brought back to a higher level and enjoyed! No warranties are expressed or implied, and $500.00 deposit will be required at auction's end, please. I am not a dealer, just an Ebay hobbyist that is reducing a 40 year Ford collection. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have either online or at 303-654-1255. I would also encourage you to come inspect the car. Shipping is obviously at your expense, but I can help coordinate after you pay for the auction. I can also store it on my property for a reasonable amount of time after the auction ends, with the understanding that it is YOUR car! Finally, remember that 90% of the proceeds of this auction will go to Disabled American Veterans. So bid high and often on this neat old car, knowing that it will benefit a great cause! Thanks for your interest, and good luck.
