1957 Mercury Turnpike Convertible Cruiser.Completely original un-restored 61000 actual miles museum quality example of an extremely rare car. Only 1265 Convertible Turnpike Cruisers were produced. 368ci/290hp V8 with 3-speed "Merc-O-Matic" automatic transmission. Leather interior. "Seat-O-Matic" automatically adjusting seat. "Lube-O-Matic" push button lube system. The Turnpike Cruiser was the first car manufactured with quad headlights. Power windows power brakes power steering. power antenna. This example is documented as being the only 1957 Turnpike Cruiser with a factory installed tachometer.For 1957 the Turnpike Cruiser was the premium model offering from Mercury and was produced in 1957 and 1958. The Turnpike Cruiser was produced in two body styles: a two-door and four-door hardtop were offered. Later in the model year an open car named Convertible Cruiser was added to this series. From the beginning it was created only to be used as the official pace car of the 1957 Indianapolis 500 but on January 7 1957 it was announced that the Convertible Cruiser would be available as a production model as well. All Convertible Cruisers had a continental tire kit and were painted yellow (Sun Glitter) similar to the original pace cars.
