Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to showcase this special 1963 Mercury Comet sedan. First of all, this '63 Comet is an absolute pleasure to drive, be sure to check out our video above. With a 2-owner Texas history, this is a true dry climate example and a real "little old lady" car. This Comet was purchased new at Holley Lincoln Mercury in Tyler, Texas on May 23rd, 1963 by Ms. Eva Prestridge who took obvious care to see that the car was cared for. This special Comet base sedan was ordered with the optional "F" code 260 V8, Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, & factory air conditioning to combat the Texas heat. The mileage of 45,376 is original to the car according to verified owner history. We even have a signed bill of sale stating that the mileage of 41040 is correct to the car when it was sold to the 2nd owner on March 31st, 2010. Since the current owner took possession, the car has had a multitude of mechanical service work done, with a log to verify. The 2nd owner has also been meticulous in care. I have meticulous service details from 2010 through 2015. So sit back and enjoy the presentation. You can reach Dave at 241-213-7072 or Maris at 214-616-2317 with any questions or concerns. Thank you.
This is not your ordinary Comet. Out of approximately 134,623 Comets produced in 1963, there were only 623 base sedans produced. How many base sedans were built with the optional 260 V8 & air conditioning and how many are left today? This a a special car.
Most of our photography is done at the Dallas Love Field Frontiers of Flight Museum. Be sure to visit our friends at the historic Flight Museum if you find yourself in the Dallas, Texas area. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas' showroom is located minutes away.
We have the original owner's manual and owner information detailing the original sale in Tyler, Texas.

The exterior showcases the solid original body with an older exterior repaint of the original Sultana White finish. The paint is in very good condition, although there are some minor flaws that come with age, a few paint chips touch-ups, etc. The car received a professional repaint in 2012. This Comet is a very nice survivor-type example that has been VERY well-maintained throughout the years. Again, it drives out beautifully and is very attractive. I have a mechanical log of extensive work performed from 2010 to present.
The brightwork on this car is just unmistakable and in very good shape front to back. The bumper chromed shows well and all of the rare trim pieces are just beautiful as are the unique twin tail lamp assemblies and emblems.
Open the doors to 1966.
The dash displays the original gauge cluster, controls, and radio. The gauges are functional throughout, although the factory pushbutton radio is not currently making any sound.
Recently Dragon Lady Sue of AMS Upholstery in Dallas, Texas (Gas Monkey Garage fame) re-upholstered the factory seating front to back in correct two-tone Turquoise vinyl. The "Dragon Lady" made sure the original contoured vinyl ribs were incorporated into the seats front to back. ASM Upholstery is Dallas, Texas premier upholstery shop! Being a base Comet sedan, the flooring was originally vinyl only. In 2010, period correct carpeting was installed front to back.
The optional 260 cubic inch 2bbl. (2V) V8 engine is factory rated at 164 horsepower @ 4400 rpms & 258 lb-ft of torque at 2200 rpms. The engine compartment is clean and detailed, displaying the correct breather, valve covers, and components. The original radiator was rebuilt. The heater core has been replaced. The generator was replaced along with the voltage regulator. The air conditioning compressor and inline filter were replaced. The idler arm has been replaced. The tie rods and steering gearbox have been replaced. the original radiator was removed and rebuilt. All of this work has been performed in the previous 6 years.
The undercarriage displays original flooring and framework front to back. The 260 V8 engine and 2-speed automatic transmission undersides are in good shape as is the suspension front to back. The shocks have been replaced along with the brake hoses & ball joints. The brake pads and exhaust muffler have also been replaced in recent history. This is a Texas car and it shows. The door undersides are also solid and display much of the original paint. There is checking on the door jambs and front inner jambs if you look for it, not the exterior of the car.
The door identification plate is intact and legible. This car was ordered in Sultana White with 2-tone turquoise interior, a Dallas, Texas DSO, a 3.25:1 axle ratio & 260 2bbl. V8 engine.
The factory 13-inch steel wheels wear 185/80R13 Firestone Whitewall radials and are fitted with the correct Mercury hubcaps/wheel covers.
The trunk displays the correct mat & backing pieces. The trunk pan and inner quarters are solid as is the taillamp panel. The spare tire/wheel and jacking equipment is securely in place.
The trunk lid shows well throughout.
The undercarriage displays solid original flooring and framework throughout.
