Description:

1987 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

I am a classic car broker selling this vehicle on behalf of the owner. I will do my best to answer all questions as accurately as I can and in a timely manner.
Up for auction is an absolutely immaculate, 1 owner, 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL. This vehicle is finished in Smoked Silver over Brazil Brown Leather Interior. Well preserved with only 18,853 original miles. The even more astonishing part is the fact that the original owner kept every single piece of paperwork to ever be associated with the vehicle. Everything from the original tire warranty booklet to every dealer service receipt from the initial purchase up until present day.
This vehicle has lived quite a pampered life since its purchase in 1987. Garage kept since new, regularly detailed, and according to the owner, never having seen rain... ever.
Exterior:
Upon first approach, you'll notice the deep and bright gloss of this time capsule. Having bought and sold many of these over the years, I am amazed at how clean everything is, showing little to no wear, and all the chrome is bright and shiny. All the glass is blemish free and crystal clear. All factory decals are still present on the windshield and removable top glass as well. Every body panel still has the original Mercedes-Benz vin stickers still in place showing no evidence of past body work, along with a clean Carfax. Paint is a solid 9/10 for being 32 years old. There are a few small rock chips in the hood that have been touched up at some point in the vehicle's life. All the trim and plastics are in amazing shape, not faded or cracked, and still very solid. None of the lenses show any cracking or delamination. The rear chrome handle on the trunk lid shows evidence of the beginning of pitting, but nothing major. There is a small area at the very bottom of the drivers door with light scratches. Please see the detailed photos.
Interior:
The interior of this vehicle is a solid 10/10. Opening the door of this car and just taking in a whiph of this Brazil Brown Leather is probably the closest you will get to time traveling back to a 1987 Mercedes-Benz dealership showroom. The interior shows no signs of wear at all... All of the dash wood is intact and free of cracks, blemishes, delamination, or fading. The dashboard is crack free and shows no signs of any warpage or fading. The leather is like new, smells new, still very plush and supple. If I had to find any flaw, Id say that the drivers bolster show slight, and I mean very slight wear. The carpets are perfect, no wear, no tears, no stains, and look absolutely new. The instruments, knobs, radio, and all interior controls show no wear of any kind and follow the theme of being impeccably preserved. This vehicle has a rather rare option for the time period, Heated Seats. They both still work on both high and low and make this vehicle that much more unique in my opinion. One of my favorite features of this 560SL is the dealer installed AT&T corded console phone and the BEL Micro Eye Express integrated Radar Detector. The shocking part to me is that the Radar Detector still works! The antenna for the phone mounts on the trunk lid, but has been removed and laid in the trunk. The phone still powers up and makes all the nostalgic noises that we all remember from the late 1980s. There is a hardwired microphone on the drivers sunvisor to pickup the drivers voice while driving if using the speaker phone feature of the car phone. Very nostalgic features that I feel really adds to the "Time Capsule" aspect of this gorgeous classic Mercedes.
Engine Compartment:
The engine compartment is one of my favorite aspects of this car. Upon opening the hood, you are immediately taken back by the cleanliness. Its very hard to believe this is an unrestored and road driven car, judging by how clean and well maintained the engine bay is. All original decals, stickers, and tags are all still in place, everything functions as it should, and according to the service records, a recent tune up was performed. I would rate the engine bay a 9.5/10.
Undercarriage:
The pictures speak for themselves. This is an 18,853mi vehicle that has been in a house garage for over 30 years. The vehicle is unrestored and the undercarriage is as it left the factory. No signs of rust of any kind, no damage, no rot, not road grime, etc. The vehicle is a very honest survivor. There are no visible leaks of any kind and there is no history marks of past leaks, damage, or spills. One of the neatest features to me on this SL is the original date coded tires. All 5 tires on this SL are the tires the vehicle was born with and the same tires mentioned in the original Michelin tire warranty booklet. I would rate the undercarriage an 8/10 simply because it is unrestored and clearly a road driven vehicle.
By this point, you can probably tell the vehicle is incredibly original and speaks for itself. Please look at ALL the pictures as I have photographed every single angle and any areas of rock chips, small scratches, etc.
