This highly desirable, late-production Mercedes 280 SL is accompanied by the factory build card and production plate showing the very rare “040/040” code that verifies the Black/Black paint and interior codes.According to several Mercedes Benz experts, it is believed that there were less than 20 “040/040” examples produced out of 23,885 built in 1967-1971.This completely restored “Pagoda” is complete with hard top, factory air-conditioning, leather upholstery, and automatic transmission.Retaining the original fenders and nose showing the factory spot welds that remain in place, along with both the headlamp-bezel marks, the inner fenders, and matching hood number, the 280 SL is further complete with factory-original books, manuals, and tools.The engine was compartment is completely detailed and restored to complete the factory-original appearance.The paint finish and bright-work, the car’s undercarriage and trunk compartment are in great condition.Given its condition and rare color combination, this 1970 280 SL is simply an exceptional, collector-quality example of the famous ”Pagoda” model.
