What makes this vehicle truly worth owning is the level of detail and hand assembled craftsmanship that is present in no automobile currently produced. This magnificent motorcar was produced in an era when owning a Mercedes-Benz meant something significant. There was no such thing as a $299 a month lease on a new C-Class; ownership was reserved for just a select few. With an MSRP of $15,450 ($83,694 when adjusted for inflation) this vehicle was one of the most expensive and best overall vehicles available during its time. It combined the road holding ability of a sports car with the opulent appointments of the finest luxury cars. This was a vehicle for the most discerning individual to whom sacrificing any virtue of the vehicle for the sake of another was unacceptable. Setting this vehicle apart from all others, aside from mileage is the wonderful and highly original condition. This is one of the only of this era we have seen that still bears original paint, which is a testament to how it was stored from new and where it resided (South Texas) as even just a few years of misuse can ruin paint from the 70's. The first owner was a wealthy middle aged man who bought the car and daily drove it for the first few years, where it received the majority of its mileage and then used it in typical 'country club' fashion where he drove it to and from the club on nice days. It was then sold to an individual who cared for it in an equally loving manner and drove it sparingly until he passed away. When he became sick, he convinced his wife to keep this and an Alfa Romeo he had to just look at in the garage. His son would come to drive the car weekly to keep things fresh and have it service twice a year. Right before his passing, the son had a massive service commissioned with an 'open check philosophy' where a new air auxiliary valve was installed, new vacuum lines, A/C Service, ignition resistor, points, spark plugs, set ignition dwell and timing, check and set idle and fuel mixture, distributor cap, valve cover gaskets, oil and filter change, air filter, steering shock, tie rod assembly, drag link, alignment, replace throttle bushings and lubricate linkage, replace shifter bushings (front and rear), replace brake hoses (they were original), new rear calipers, rotors, and pads, new front calipers, performed a full check over of the vehicle, and much more! All of this work was performed 43 miles ago. Further, the heads were recently rebuilt at a massive cost, however the son has yet to locate the record. This vehicle is certainly ready for the next individual to either drive or place into a collection. Further, the entire interior is as it came from the factory (other than the center wood having been replaced) and everything is functioning. There is no dye work, nothing cracked, etc. The interior is a time capsule and a testament to how it was kept. We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of, if not the best and most beautiful examples of the coveted 450SL Mercedes available anywhere.
