I am a Mercedes enthusiast of this vintage Mercedes Benz vehicles. I am selling because I have too many german car projects and these aren't getting the attention they need.
The best part about this is they are both the same color combinations and same model just one is a 1987 and the other a 1988. Both are CA life cars with zero rust, both run, both have current registration and smog certificates and both have good strong transmission.
The bad they each have their quirks.
First for the 1987: 147xxx miles although odometer is non functioning TMU yet overall condition would say no more than 155-160k, i have the carfax for this vehicle. This is the one I was going to keep and go through and make it a very presentable daily driver, never a show car but very clean example. The anti-lock light was on when I purchased the vehicle and was idling at 1500 RPM in park. No it was not the typical bad OVP relay. It could have been the idle control computer located underneath the passenger floor, yet I have lost interest and have 5 other 1980s german cars at the moment and have given up. Basically it runs very well once started (would recommend a new fuel accumulator due to hard starting when cold)...but once we adjusted the idle/air fuel mixture, lowering it, it will only stay running when given load therefore intermediate stalling entails. This vehicle still passed smog no problem because the day I drove it to smog it didn't want to stall? This one is my choice between the 2 because when it runs the idle is near perfect and the suspension is far more firm, the dash has 1 crack and the paint is almost all original mercedes quality. I believe the timing chain has been done on this vehicle but am not 100%
For the 1988: 141xxx miles This one has all the service records, although I believe it needs an injector job due to misfiring at idle. also front brake pad light is on, but other than that this one seems like a good driver although I would recommend changing the timing chain guides as they appear very old.
In a nutshell, I would salvage parts off the 1988 put them on the 1987 and have one very nice 1987 silver (RARE) 420sel.
I am very straight forward and do this with old mercedes benz as a hobby, I know what I am talking about to a certain extent due to owning nearly 16+ of this era mercedes benz in the past 5 years. I can be reached easiest at 714 585 0547 phone or text message
both vehicles run and drive yet have they quirks AS-IS clear smogged titles
