Description:

1952 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

This 1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet B was beautifully restored to an extremely high standard, and looks and operates just like it should! It was a frame-off total restoration done by the noted restorer of European automobiles, Barry Briskman at his Scottsdale facility . The restoration was fully documented by photos and detailed receipts, all of which are included with the sale. Only 997 220 Cabriolet "B" Mercedes Benz were produced! . Jet black paint ! Extremely high quality, I would say show quality. Same with the chrome, top, and interior. This car was restored by professionals, done exactly right, and maintained as it should be. . Although it was built in 1952, the pre-war styling touches are evident. Separate fenders, heavy, lined top, big landau iron, and upright chrome radiator shell with the magical Mercedes-Benz Star ornament on top. . Look at the reflections in the mirror finish paint. When I learned this car was restored in the 1990's, I couldn't believe it! It looks like it just left the restoration shop! I think that speaks to the extreme high quality of the original restoration work, and the attention to detail and maintenance of the owner who commissioned the restoration and the one subsequent owner. . Spectacular! . The chrome looks new! . Mercedes Laurel badge, and Star hood ornament! and look at that chrome plating! . Beautiful landau iron, and notice the excellence of the top fit. . Sindelfingen body badge - a nice touch from the factory! . The drip rail is an interesting feature - it extends from the top of the windshield post to the bottom of the doorjamb- both to keep rain out of the interior, and to add stiffness to the cowl/windshield post area. . Mirror finish and look at the door fit! Just exactly right! . Gorgeous . WOW! This interior is especially crisp - Beautiful soft red leather, wool carpeting that fits perfectly, and the contrast of rich wood and black paint and chrome on the dash is mesmerizing . The steering wheel and horn ring are just beautiful ! . Leave it to Mercedes-Benz to design a lovely and functional dashboard . Multi-band Telefunken radio! . The top has the correct inner liner, and the sunvisors are chrome edges with dark tinted flaps. Again, just exactly right. . Soft leather, straight pleats and straight seams. This interior was stitched by a master craftsman. . The wood trim is gorgeous too! . It just couldn't be any better . The attention to detail is evident throughout. . The seat backs are adjustable by rotating the black knob, set against the beautiful chrome! . Inviting, comfortable, and properly done! . The 6 cylinder engine was rebuilt, and it runs great! It's a carbureted 2.2 liter engine, with surprisingly good horsepower, mated to a column shifted 4 speed transmission. . Here's the air cleaner side - note the correct hoses and clamps. I also found the windshield wiper motor and exposed wiper mechanism interesting. . The engine was replaced at the time of restoration, so it's not the original engine in this car. Of course it is a correct 220 Mercedes engine! . Beautiful fitted luggage! . Correct Jack and tool roll as well . This fitted luggage was purchased in Germany at staggering expense - and it really is the icing on this 220 B Cabriolet cake! . Speaking of staggering expense - let there be no doubt this was a professional, comprehensive, frame off restoration! . Note the custom made support for the body - this is the type of thing that separates professional restoration work from the mere talented amateurs! And we see the results of this careful approach today, with the excellent body and door fit! . Mechanical Artwork! . Here it is nearing completion. There is a full file of receipts to document the work done, as well as many more in-process restoration photos. . And of course a copy of the build sheet! . . Delightful! . Spectacular! . Wonderful!
