This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 is a European-market coupe that was reportedly ordered new by a Mercedes-Benz executive in Germany, who optioned it with an electric sunroof, fog lamps, and 4-speed automatic floor shifter. The car moved on to a second owner in Japan in 1979 and was brought to the US in August 2015, spending the past 16 months with the selling dealer. This W111 shows just over 72k kilometers (~45k miles) and is offered by the selling dealer... in Wisconsin with records from Japan, a copy of its factory data card, and a clean Missouri title. Code 180 Silver Grey Metallic paint is shown under indoor and outdoor lighting below. Some panels appear to have been refinished according to the seller, and a variety of paint meter readings are viewable in the gallery. Bubbling is noted in areas including the lower rear quarter panels. A detailed video tour is provided. The car retains European-market headlights and optional halogen fog lamps. Steel wheels are mounted with full polished and color-matched covers as well as Michelin XWX blackwall radials showing 2004 date codes. The code 241 black leather is believed by the seller to remain largely original, while the woodgrain dash trim was recently refinished. An aftermarket air conditioning system is mounted below the dash. The 4-speed automatic is shifted on the floor. The passenger sun visor is said to be loose due to a cracked mount. Stock switchgear and controls are shown in detail in the gallery below.
