1968 Mercedes 280sl

Stored for nearly 30 years, this vehicle has recently undergone a complete work through to bring it up to excellent status.94,055 original miles, the car was purchased in 1985, was restored, but traveled only 6k miles in that time.

The car has now undergone an extensive refurbishment to make sure it both presents and runs beautifully.

The interior retains it’s original seats, headliner and door panels. The wood has been refinished, the carpets are new and the dash and a-pillar trim have been professionally recovered in original MBTex vinyl so that the entire interior feels factory new.All gauges work, having been restored and refreshed with new light kits. All of the body rubber has been replaced from the door and top seals to the glass and trunk seals, this includes both the hard and soft-top seals as well as all windows.New heater levers were installed and the original Becker Europa radio has been professionally refurbished and works without fail.

Mechanically the engine has received a complete tune with new plugs, points, oil and filter, thermo switch, and valve adjustment. The fuel system has been flushed and new filters (engine bay and inside fuel tank) installed. Also replaced was the fuel sender unit as well as the fuel gauge so you know the levels are accurate. The engine runs strong, producing a great sound and excellent pull through the gears. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts well through all gears and the braking system is strong.

The body presents very well. The car retains it’s original chrome which shows minor pitting around the windshield and soft top cover. The previous owner replaced the foot wells and front fenders at one point due to rust. The work was done well and shows no signs of rust. The hood, soft top cover and hard top cover all carry their original matching body code of #3144.The original headlights were showing a lot of wear and were replaced with brand new Euro spec lights. While the Euro lights looks fantastic, some may wish to return to the original US spec look and thus the old equipment is included with the car.The paint was also re-done by the previous owner in the original Mercedes Blue. While the paint presents very well, it’s not a show car paint job; which is why we feel this car is best presented as an excellent driver and not a +$100k show car.Pictures note any paint flaws.

Vehicle retains is original factory options which include power steering, factory hard top, blue soft top, white wall wheels, spare tire, radio, and left-hand mirror.

What does it need?As mentioned, we worked to make sure that this car not only looks fantastic but drives that way as well.Nothing is needed other than a nice day to put the top down and enjoy. If we kept the car, we would invest in new shocks at some point and possibly install an aftermarket A/C system. We wished to keep the car as original as possible for the new owners but that would be our recommendation for next steps.
