Description:

1969 Mercedes-Benz 1969 Euro 300SEL 6.3

  • This "6.3" was delivered in Italy and later exported to the U.S. It is a genuine 1969 Euro car with minimal smog control and low miles - actually kilometers. The car was certified to meet U.S. Safety and Emission Standard at the time of Import.
  • The car's odometer only goes to five digits (99,999) before resetting to zero. Refer to the photo of the Speedometer. It nowdisplays 70,824 kms. I have records that prove that theodometer has rolled over only twice. For example, odometer read 72,000 on April 18, 1996. That means that total mileage is 99,999 + 99,999 + 70,824 = 268,824 kms or 166,671 actual miles. That is an extremely low mileage for a car of this age.Imiscalculated it as 150,050 miles; but it is still low mileage.
  • I rescued this car after long term storage in Winnetka, IL. Listed below is just some of the work that has been done mainly by me - the Owner.I am a retired Electronic Engineer who has been a Car Hobbyist and Collector for sixty years.
  • Extremely powerful M100 6.3 liter V-8 Fuel Injected Engine makes 300 Net HP. FI Pump rebuilt by Hans Utke of H&R Fuel Injection, Bohemia, LI, NY. Linkage rod lengths between accelerator pedal and FI Pump adjusted for proper synchronization.
  • Cylinder Heads redone with new valve seals. Valves and Seatslapped-in for leak-proof valve seating.Valve clearances adjusted to specifications.
  • Steering box transplantedfrom a low mileage car W109 car; but still leaks a bit.
  • The stock Dual-Point Distributor has been replaced bya modifiedsingle-point unit taken from a 450SL. Ittriggers a Capacitor DischargeDelta Mark 10B. A push-button on the C/D allows one to bypass it and return to strictly breaker point ignition. The C/D ignitioneliminatesbreaker pointwear.
  • The stock dual-point distributor was difficult to adjust properly, althoughI saved the original unit. The tachometer works accurately and is connected via a 50K ohm series resistor. Vacuum Advance can be controlled electrically by an under thedash panel to provide either ported spark or full advance.
  • The rear brake reaction mechanism needs some attention. The nylon clamshells need replacing. Contact Star Motors of Endicott, NY. Neil Dubey will supply a new set of under-sized clamshells. He needs the outside diameter of the rounded portion on outside axel.It is easy tomake this measurement with a micrometer beforeinstalling the new ones. This fix eliminates the pulsations when backing up forcibly in reverse gear.
  • Yes, there is some rust on the left side rear wheel opening as the photos show.Added Note: There is also surface bubbling on the top edge of the right rear wheel opening. Both Front Wheel Openings show no signs of any rust.
  • I had the inside of the rockers rustproofed. The underside is rust free and was also rust proofed.
  • This car has theAir Suspension System. The car maintains its level for at least two weeks. I have replacement Air Bags and Air Valve Controls that will be supplied with the car. After start-up it only takes a few minutes to restore ride height.
  • Car was refinished six years ago in PPG ConceptAcrylic Urethane purposely without clear-coating. This provides a finish that duplicates the original factory process and does not have theplastic-coated look of a modern finish.
  • A/C works and has been charged with R-12. Receiver-Dryer has been rebuilt and the original York compressor is retained. System blows cold. Compressor a bit noisy at idle and requires periodic belt tightening. Uses two belts in parallel.
  • Ignition Cableshave been replaced. NOS Spark Plugs areW8DC for typical stop and go driving. Optional W6D plugs supplied for continuous highway cruising. Those numbers correspond to the W125T30/175T30/W225T30, etc. that are no longer available.
  • Radio isa Becker Grand Prix with all modes BC (US AM), L (Euro AM Long Wave),FM (Mono) and Intl 49m SW Band - all working. The original Hirschman Power Antenna has been rebuilt. It has an extra long telescopicaerial rodto pull-in the AM and Long Wave stations. Radio and Antenna overhaul done by Owner. Optional rear seat loudspeaker installed.
  • The wood in this car is in exceptional conditionand not refinished. The onlyrefinished piece is the one on top of the dash adjoining the windshield. Was professionally stripped, stained and coatedin Acrylic Urethane.
  • Many additional parts too numerous to list will be supplied to the Buyer at no extra cost.
  • Also supplied are original Owners Manuals for the car, the A/C, the Radio, Warranty, etc.
  • Tires are Dunlop SP60 205/70R14
  • Extras: I have a set of five (5) new Michelin 215/70 VR14 Tires mounted on refinished rims. The rims were repainted in Black 2KUrethane. These tires and rims never used and the tires are no longer available at any reasonable prices. Price is Negotiable. Buyer must arrange for pick-up since shipping the tireswould be too expensive.
  • Extras: I also have a Red Leather Interior taken from another W109 series car. The front seat leathers are worn and need recovering. The rear seats are in good shape. Included are the doorpanels, cappings, door hardware, carpets, parcel covering, console tray, rear speaker grills for stereo conversion, etc. items to convertthe stock velour interior to red leather. Price is Negotiable. Buyer must arrange for pick-up since shipping the red interior would be expensive.
