Description:

1968 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

This listing is for a 1968 Mercedes Benz 280 SE. It has been garage-kept for the five years I have owned it. It passed WV State Inspection last year; I have not attempted to renew since it expired in Dec 2017
I have little mechanical knowledge, so this was basically a toy for me to drive around several times a year. Being sold as-is with no guarantees, but I will describe everything as best as I can.
I took this car on a 500-mile round-trip adventure around the state of WV in September 2017, and it performed like a champ with no issues. But, it has sat most of the winter, only driven around town a couple times. I did have a new battery, spark plugs, and points done in Feb 2018. My mechanic told me then it needs brake work done, exhaust work, and is rusting underneath. The transmission does slip sometimes shifting from 2nd to 3rd gears.
It runs and drives fairly well, considering it's a fifty year old car with original engine and miles. It does take a few minutes to warm up and idle smoothly. Body is in decent shape, but it does have noticeable rust on rear passenger wheel well, and deposits from being dripped on in garage, shown in photos. There is also a small dent on front passenger fender, also shown.
Interior is in very good shape, especially the seats -- remarkable condition. Some wear on carpet, and wood trim is faded/cracked and some pieces missing. Original Becker radio works, and all gauges work and function properly except for the clock. The air conditioning works but does not blow cold, but the heater works well. Windows and door locks are all manual, but do function. There is no sun roof.
This classic certainly needs some work if you would want it to be a show-car. Using the highly-respected Hagerty valuation tools, I think (in my amateur judgement) it would best to describe this car in "fair" condition overall. I have set my reserve price WAY lower than Hagerty suggests, however, so this is a great opportunity for you to pick up a rare antique car.
