1985 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series SEL

Beautiful 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL with just over 97,000 miles.I purchased this 500SEL from the original owner a little over a year ago. He had it regularly serviced at a respected independent dealer/mechanic and rarely drove this particular vehicle as he had many. It has been a third car for me and I have only used it on nice summer days.
The 500SEL was Mercedes' flagship automobile in 1985 and features a five liter V8 engine, BS brakes, river's airbag, nd various interior options. It is also worth noting that this is the long wheelbase variant. The extra 6 inches of length provide extended leg room in the back seat.
The exterior and body are in excellent condition. There is absolutely no rust, nd all the body panels are dent free. The anthracite grey paint is in superb condition and looks nearly new, ven upon close inspection. The bundt alloy wheels are in excellent condition and show only minor wear. The chrome and brightwork are shiny with no fading or oxidation. All of the door seals are in great condition. The glass is all in excellent condition with no chips or delamination. I replaced the original U.S. specification headlights with Bosch European style headlights. If you prefer the US style headlights they can easily be swapped back in.
The interior is also in exceptional condition. The dove grey leather remains soft, upple and "new" looking. All seats are firm, upportive and comfortable. The extensive walnut veneer is in wonderful condition and retains its original dark colour. The power memory front seats and power headrests operate correctly as does the reclining rear seat. Both the front and back seats are heated. The radio, assete deck, ntenna, ower door locks, ower windows, efroster, unroof, ights and other electronics all function properly. The automatic climate control system works perfectly. Headliner and pillar trim are in superb condition. Dashboard is crack free and the instrument panel needles retain their original dark orange colour.
Mechanically the car is well sorted and well maintained. There are no noises going over bumpy country roads or on the freeway. In fact, he car is quieter than many late model vehicles. The V8 purrs to life on the first crank and the transmission shifts flawlessly. Steering is tight and the anti-lock brakes perform flawlessly. Cruise control is functional. Engine compartment is clean and shiny. In late 2013 at 94,000 miles the transmission was removed and resealed (new gaskets and hoses) due to a very minor leak. At the same time the car received new ball joints, ew valve cover gaskets, new power steering pump, ew hood ornament, ew brake rotors, ew guide rods, ew guide rod mounts, nd a new driver's side window motor. Last year, ew front Bilstein shocks were installed along with a new antenna. This summer a new control arm, park plug wires, park plugs, nd a distributor cap / rotor were installed.
