1984 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series Euro

Up for sale is a rare Mercedes 500 SEC coupe gray market. This vehicle has been in So. California since it was imported. This vehicle is owned by a senior who is a personal friend. He has owned and maintained this vehicle for 10 plus years. The car runs and drives nice for a car of it's age. The chassis is tight and the handling in excellent. The original color is Oriental Red and the vehicle has had one average repaint about 15 years ago. The paint is dry and probably could use a respray. However, it will buff and look descent. Has the rare staggered German Centra wheels with locking center caps. Work performed over the last few years:

Vehicle had recent compression test- all cylinders at 170 to 180psi.
Mechanically, this car drives nice and tight. It does drip a drop or two of oil. The idle is about 100 RPM higher than I think it should be, not sure why. Idles at 700RPM. This car has unbelievable acceleration. Still retains it original euro version engine. Drives straight and true. Highway cruising is smooth and quiet. Handles great. Air conditioning is cold, heat and defrost are working properly. Side glass is adjusted properly. There are no gaps between the side windows like most of these SEC's. All windows, power locks, stereo system, gauges, controls are working with the exception of:

**REAR SUSPENSION HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY CONVERTED TO STANDARD SUSPENSION. THE HYDRAULIC LEVELING SYSTEM HAS BEEN REMOVED....
The body has some issues. Most came with the car when he purchased it, with the exception of the driver's door which happened about 2 years ago. The front bumper corners are a little down due to a parking lot incident. The bumper is fine but the brackets just need a little straightening. has the small euro bumpers. The outside trim is straight. Fit and body gaps are very good. Car was repainted many years ago in the original color. The paint is currently dry and could use refreshening. Car has the rare European headlights with adjustable beams and I believe they work!
Interior is original and usable. The panels in the back window are aging considerably. The seats are a bit faded and have some tearing consistent with age. Carpet, door panels, and headliner are nice and show minimal aging. Wood on dash needs work and a couple of pieces are missing. The dash pad has sun and heat related cracking. Dash lights are working fine as is the interior lighting. All in all, not mint, but usable and aged, but not ever abused.
All in all, while not in mint condition, still a very nice and reliable euro 500 SEC. These are becoming harder to get these days and the euro model is preferred by collectors. This car is basically mechanically sound but cosmetically challenged. Recently passed California smog test and current registration. Ready to drive and enjoy while working on the interior and exterior cosmetics. If you have been looking for a real straight forward SEC that you can reliably drive and enjoy, this is it. Get yours while the prices are affordable. These are trending upwards in value lately.
