Description:

1983 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Coupe

Hello, up for auction is my 1983 Euro 280sl. This car is beautiful! This is a super clean SL with low miles. Just replaced Bosch fuel injectors, Mercedes shift bushings, Mercedes sway bar bushings, new Mercedes radiator hoses, new factory exhaust system from Germany, and had the engine sorted by local classic Mercedes specialist. Compression is good, no vacuum leaks, no drips ever, runs and shifts excellent. Vacuum powered locks all work and hold vacuum. Everything works on this car, even the original Becker Audio radio with original speakers. Everything is original, even has German Pirelli Metric spare tire, Tool Kit, Roadside safety kit, towing kit, Mercedes Owners Manual, and service records from Germany before it was imported in 1986. Still has original Mercedes camel hair floor mats. Interior carpet shows fading from age, but the folding soft top has been replaced and fits very well, with clear vinyl windows. I have the hard top as well, it is all original good shape with a small ding in the trim. I am the third owner and the car has been repainted one time in factory Astral Silver. I have the data card for this car, it was ordered without the 280sl emblem on the boot, and ordered with heated seat. As you can see the interior is in very good shape for its age, the one noticeable flaw is the tear in the drivers seat cloth. I have documented the few areas of rust on the body in the photos. The underside shows some surface corrosion, but has been pretty well preserved and has no major rust issues. This car has obviously been well cared for before me, and I have kept it garaged and never driven during harsh weather. Starts right up, and I just replaced the fuel filter and oil filter. This car is very rare in the US. The Vin is not entered into Ebay, since it is a Euro/Import vin and will not come up in the ebay database.

A/C is charged with R12 and is ice cold, no leaks.

The European 280sl M110 motor has higher output than its American counterpart. It was imported in 1986 and has been regularly maintained by myself and the collector that I purchased it from. This car truly is a very rare example with the Getrag 5 speed. The mechanics that have driven it are amazed by how well it shifts! Most people would never guess it's age, and at about 100k miles on the German engineered motor it is just broken in! It is registered in CA, but right now it is running factory oem part numbers dual exhaust that I ordered from Germany, the way it was meant to run. If you need a smog certification that requires a catalytic converter, I can arrange to have one put back on.
