Here's another desirable, great-running & driving Mercedes diesel we've acquired for our Ebay customers. This nice 300SD sold new here in Seattle to a Naval officer and has spent the intervening years driving our snow-free Western Washington State for almost four decades now.A family member of the original owner reluctantly passed "Colonel Mustard" on to us in hopes of finding his next caretaker. From the moment I first laid eyes on the old boy, it was obvious the car's been treated with respect and care over the years. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is (206) 914-1173. You're welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and drive the car.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Have you ever spent an afternoon driving one of these vintage sedans with the powerful 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine?Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (22+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one great ride?Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway.I've always considered the W116 chassis models constructed in the 1970's as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard others say the same! Look over the posted photos and I'm sure you'll agree with me what a nice car this is. All were taken on 10/28/2017.What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only.Climb over, under and throughout; I know you'll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust and you won't find a thing to worry about here. Climb over, under and all around this clean car - I know you'll come up smiling!. Having spent a lifetime in Seattle there's never been exposure to road corrosion starters.Yes, western Washington is famous for rain, but our winter streets aren't salted. At most we'll have one or two light snow days. Everyone panics and just stays home, hunkered down under a blanket with their Kindle & Starbucks.

CONDITION:

In total, this is a clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free Mercedes. I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly, here's a list of the good and also a few small things needing attention: take a few seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts immediately with a minimum of starter cranking! The automatic transmission shifts through all the gears properly with absolutely no slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to - strong, immediate oil pressure, good battery and charging system, no overheating and no brake pull. The immediate past owner indicated he'd replaced the alternator, radiator and glow plugs along with new Bilstein rear shocks.I noticed the shift linkage bushings and windshield gasket were also recently done.

The factory original yellow-gold solid paint has been resprayed to the original color sometime in the past.I'd call it an 8 out of 10.Though I'm no expert, there doesn't seem to be evidence of bodywork or accident repair. The front fenders, rear quarters, doors and floor pans are all very solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine shape for a thirty-eight year-old vehicle! No other real body flaws to point out, just a few expected small nicks, dings and chips. All the glass is good, although there's some fogging at the bottom of the back window. I've never encountered Mercedes alloy wheels that were anything but straight and true. These fit that bill and are wrapped with touring radials with about 20% - 40% or so tread remaining all around. One of the first things you'll noticed when checking over the car are the original shorter, European bumpers. They're so much more attractive than the bulky units U.S. versions came with and complement the design Mercedes originally intended.

Take another good look at my interior pics. The Vinyl-Tex seats (including the rear bench) have held up well with no wear-through on the driver's backrest bolsters as you'll typically find on these boulevard cruisers. The speedometer works well however the odometer doesn't move and is showing 114K mile. The heater blows warm air when activated but the fan doesn't always come on and neither does the A/C system. We've not investigated as to why.

There's no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner. The power sunroof opens using the dash switch as do all four power windows. You will find NO evidence of cigarette smoke here. The carpets are decent and original but the two rear panels (behind the front buckets) are MIA.Like most vintage stereos, the original Becker "Grand Prix" went south long ago and was replaced with an aftermarket AM-FM/CD that I've not found to be very functional. Over the past twenty months the Benz has been kept in our warehouse when I wasn't using it for commuting. The few times left out in heavy rain the trunk's gotten wet, so I'd suggest redoing the seal. All-in-all, a fun, roadworthy car we've enjoyed driving these many months and know the next owner will feel the same!As a respected Ebay seller with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Mercedes runs and drives out as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don't be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some issue comes up on the car.NO used vehicle is ever perfect.

You're encouraged to check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE placing a bid! You're also welcome to stop by my Auburn, Washington warehouse to inspect the Mercedes and take it for a test drive. The car is being sold as-is, where-is with a free & clear Washington State title. There are NO title brands for any nasty negatives like salvage history, theft or flood damage to cause you concern.Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid either through Ebay's message system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173. My name is MARK THOMPSON.
