1961 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION. I will honor the highest bid without exception!
My storage situation is changing, so unfortunately I must sell of a bunch of pieces from my 35+ pc collection!
This is a really nice 1961 220SB Heckflosse- Mercedes Fintail. Normally you would thnk 4-doors would not move the needle much, but ONLY the four doors had the cool fins, and a period Mercedes just works great as a 4 door!
This car has a LOT going for it, with some notable condition issues.
Let's talk about the positives first. This is completely RUST FREE- no perforations anywhere- just the lightest bit of patina on the undercarriage- If you're going to add this to your collection THIS is the condition you want to start with. A TON of money has been thrown at this car! The motor and tranny were reportedly (No docs, just good stories from the previous owner and the condition reflects this) rebuilt some years ago when the car was repainted. (90s??) The Becker radio was recently rebuilt by Becker in New Jersey. The Kuhlmeister A/C was rebuilt and charged in Texas- where it gets HOT- and it is WORKING! Working A/C in a 56 year old car? Yup.
This is a great driving car. When used regularly it fires RIGHT up, comes off chokes quickly and has good power. It does not smoke or leak excessively. The motor sounds great and settles into a nice mechanical whir at highway speeds. It cruises down the road with excellent comfort, good brakes and super comfy seats. Other than the skinny Bias Ply tires making it a bit squirelly- it is a great handling car. All four shocks are brand new as is the steering stabilizer.
On the negative side I think it is time for an interior retrim. The door panels look original and are quite stained. The seats look like a mix of original leather and some replacement vinyl. The carpets and headliner are MUCH newer probably done in the 90s. ALL of the trim is there- nothing is missing. Most of it is in Good condition- None of it is in excellent condition. The paint is older and quite aged, with plenty of small filled areas. It has a reasonable gloss- and going down the road it looks like a VERY expensive classic! Even with those items mentioned I do drive this weekly- and always get tons of horn honks, thumbs up and very nice comments!
This is a great car to get started in the old Mercedes hobby, to drive very day and soak up the compliments! Or a TREMENDOUS starting point for a restoration. With no rust to speak of and mechanicals all working- I think a good paint job, partial rechrome and partial interior retrim would yield a car that could be driven proudly to any car show!
As with any old car- it is sold with no warranty- in as-is condition. I am happy to have you pick the car up from me, but I probably would not drive it cross-country without a really comprehensive going-over by a classic car specialist and a set of modern tires. For my 20-30 mile jaunts to the weekend car shows- it's perfect!
YES this is a NO RESERVE auction! BID TO WIN!
