Description:

1988 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 560sl

This 1988 560sl is in exceptional condition and in early 2017, (just days ago) it had a complete inspection at the Mercedes Benz dealer in San Rafael and recently had about $3,000 worth of services done to care care of all inspection findings and a major service which includes: new hoses, new master cylinder, brake fluid flush, transmission service, complete detail, new spark plugs, and more.
The paint is all original, as is the exceptionally clear interior. The owners before me rarely drive this car and had sheepskin covers on it, so the interior is like new. The dashboard is in excellent condition and it has no cracks as this car was always garaged.
This California car is all original except for a wooden shift knob and an Eclipse Stereo System, but the original radio (which works) is included. The car comes complete with all tools, the first aid kit, the spare tire, books, and service records organized by date in a binder that go back to the 80's. This car has a clean Carfax and an exceptionally high Autocheck score.
These cars are still affordable here but sell for about twice as much in Europe. The 1988/89 are the most desireable and most valuable to collectors because of refinements/improvements like the rear brake light.
The prior SL was known as the Pagoda and top low mileage examples go for $150k, this version (the 560sl) is known as the Panzer, since it is built like a tank, and values are expected to rise.
Red was used in Beverly Hills Cop and many other 80's movies this is an iconic car. Hart To Hart and many other shows featured the 560sl and this was the car to own in the 80's if you were wealthy. The 80's were the decade of excess and the red color and chrome wheels are the perfect combination to bring the 80's back!
According to Haggerty price guides, a #1 concours condition 1988 560sl is worth about $75,000, a #2 condition or excellent 560sl is valued at about $46,000 and a #3 or good condition example is worth $21,500. (see link below)

This article (in the link below) calls the 560sl the "next collectible Mercedes SL Roadster" and says that 560sl's with 30k or less miles are worth $45k plus:

A Robb Report "Now and Future Classics" article states (link below):
http://robbreport.com/automobiles/slideshow/now-future-classics/mercedes-benz-560sl
"Benz’s drop-top battleship came to America as the 1974 450SL, but by the time its 16-year run was over, the longest-lived SL had become the 560SL, built from 1986 to 1989. Refined within an inch of its life, the two-seater’s V-8 engine was now a loping 5.6-liter monster, as was the car itself. Unlike earlier 230/250/280SLs, this was a true boulevard and highway cruiser. Still quite at home in the swankiest Palm Springs driveway, the 560SL is an elegant car despite the North American version’s battering-ram bumpers and central brake light. When fitted, the metal hard top retains the signature pagoda roofline of the 280SL. Buy the best in the world for $70,000, or a very nice one for as little as $25,000."
My car is in exceptional condition and with a recent inspection and major service at the Mercedes dealer, it is also in excellent mechanical condition. Inspections are welcome and I can also provide service paper copies and more photos. Priced at $33,500 and open to offers from serious buyers. I reserve the right to end this listing at any time, as the car is subject to prior sale.
