Up for sale is this beautiful and Rare 1970 Mercedes 280 sl. Why rare.. Because it's all original panels and being Rust free makes it very special and very collectible. The car was purchased new by a Gentleman who was a New car dealer and this was his toy until 2012 . The car was always garaged and serviced on a regular basis. In 1997 he had it repainted the Original color and it still looks amazing today. The color code is 904 Midnight blue and it looks amazing on this Sl. With a Blue soft top to contrast and a cream interior is screams Class...
The paint is in excellent condition and shows a few nicks and chips that were touched up but a very presentable car and amazing driver. The Body panels are all Original as stated above. The fenders have the Original weld marks inside the fender and also the notch near the headlights. The chrome on the car is excellent and has no damage or issues. I would say this is one high repaint away from making this a concourse car since there is no body work to be done or rust issues . It has the Original trunk floors that are super solid and the Undercarriage is in excellent condition as well.
The Cream Interior is in excellent condition as well. The front seats have brand new leather and feel amazing and give the car a new car smell. The rest of the Interior is 100% Original. Carpet is very nice and clean and the door panels and dash are in overall excellent condition. There is 1 small crack on the left side of dash in the corner which is easily repairable . It has the Original wood which is all in tact and could use refinishing to make perfect. The car has Factory Ac which is still the R 12 and it blows very cold. It also has the original radio that works properly as well. Rare option Cruise control works properly as well.
The Soft top is Dark blue to match the car and in overall excellent condition. It has a few minor snags on bottom but no holes. The rear plastic glass is clear. I also have the Matching hard top that is like new. It was always stored on a stand and covered. You will get the stand and cover as well.
Mechanically I would consider this one of the Best Pagoda's on the market. The Original owner had a German mechanic who worked at the Mercedes plant in Germany. He had him rebuild the engine at 90 k miles. It now has 102.547 miles . 12000 miles on complete rebuild of Original engine and transmission. He told me it didn't need a rebuild but he wanted to make sure it was good for the next decade and since he had a professional who was a specialist on this car he decided to do it.Check out the engine compartment on how clean it is and there is no leaks anywhere. Since i purchased the car I went through it from front to back. I first had a compression check done and All 6 cylinders were at 160 lbs which is in spec of when new. I had My Mercedes Master tech do a complete tune up which included new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and coil. He also did the Sub Frame bushings and all new Motor mounts and trans mount. The front suspension was also gone through and is super tight, Has new shocks all away around . The Transmission had a service as well with new fluid and filter. I also had the exhaust done and its like new.The brakes are also new as are the Michelin tires on Mercedes Aluminum wheels that are brand new as well. I have the Original hub caps and wheels for the car. I spent a lot of money and time to make this car truly one you can drive anywhere. It starts right up and idles very smooth. It has Monster power and holds the road amazingly. The car is fully serviced and needs nothing.
If your a collector or have been looking for a 113 Body 280 Sl and just wanted to find one that was well cared for and very solid then you just found it. This car can easily be a concourse car with little effort or just keep it this way and drive it and enjoy it. These cars can very from 40 k to up words of 200 k depending on the condition. Restored cars are great but then don't usually have the Original panels or weld marks and that's what brings the value to these cars. I consider this one very special as it's highly serviced and has been gone through completely from front to back. I am going to price this car with a very fair reserve . I will end the auction if I get a offer that is acceptable to me. I have a clear title and many Original Service manuals on the car as well as the Original books and keys.
Please read my feedback as I take pride in selling great cars. If you want to call me and talk about the car you can reach me at 954-464-3515 . Steve
I have added over a hundred pictures of this car. It truly is a beautiful car and someone will get an amazing deal. I tried to photograph the weld marks in the engine bay and it does have the notch in headlight and fender to match.
